Serco is a leading Space Services Provider with thousands of skilled resources that has supported over 50 space missions on behalf of more than 10 Space or Government agencies around the globe, including the ESA and NASA. Serco offers space capability across the full space lifecycle from satellite testing to Launch services, LEOP to spacecraft operations, space surveillance to data management, and supporting downstream application development.

Our Europe Space Bid pipeline has created a strong need for Solution and Enterprise Architecture Experts with excellent understanding of the market and customer requirements, to develop solutions for Serco and new propositions. The focus is particularly on the architecture of our Earth Observation and Navigation related services.

We are seeking a European-based Space Solution Architect responsible for developing elements of bid-winning solutions for the European division. You will contribute to the development of valuable propositions that meet our customers’ requirements, leading to successful outcomes.

You will have the opportunity to work on large and medium-sized bids and proposals across our Space business, collaborating with Operational Leads, Subject Matter Experts, Bid Directors, Bid Managers, and various external partners such as supply chain and specialist suppliers.

The position is full-time, permanent, and can be performed remotely from Italy, Spain, Czech Republic, Germany, Netherlands, or France.

Main Responsibilities

1. Support the design of ground segment systems or sub-systems for end-to-end services and operations.
2. Develop Solution/Enterprise Architecture and Systems Engineering approaches.
3. Elaborate value chains and system architecture for Ground Segment services and solutions.
4. Design solutions for major bids using Systems Engineering & Solution/Enterprise Architecture methodologies.
5. Apply systems engineering approaches such as COAD, TOGAF, MODAF, Soft Systems to develop Enterprise Architectures.
6. Capture requirements, facilitate customer workshops.
7. Perform functional analysis, system concept design, technical budgeting, performance analysis, and define data processing and interfaces.
8. Develop the overall vision, high-level architectural design, and Target Operating Model for bids or projects.
9. Contribute to proposition development and bidding, introducing innovations to differentiate Serco’s offerings.
10. Assist in developing solutions and value propositions in emerging areas like AI, Earth Observation, ISR, and synthetic training.
11. Ensure compliance with Serco’s governance processes, conduct reviews, and benchmark solutions.
12. Manage solution budgets, ensuring resource optimization.
13. Participate in competitor analysis to assess solution strengths and Pwin allocation.

Candidate Profile

Ideal candidates will have:

• MSc or equivalent in a relevant technical/scientific discipline; experience in Solution/Enterprise Architecture and Systems Engineering is desirable.
• At least 5 years of relevant space domain experience.
• Experience in business development within public/private sector service providers.
• Familiarity with standards like ECSS, business process re-engineering, and related management processes.
• Fluency in English; additional European languages are a plus.

Domain and Technical Knowledge

• Strong knowledge of Space Ground segment solutions, especially Earth Observation and Navigation.
• Background in space system engineering and Ground Segment architecture design.
• Experience in space project phases C, D, E, and documentation related to requirements engineering, design, and IV&V.
• Understanding of Systems Engineering, ICT technologies, and analytical skills.

Communication Skills

• Proficiency in English, capable of explaining complex concepts clearly.
• Negotiation and presentation skills, experience with competitive dialogues or OJEU processes.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills at all organizational levels.
