THE ROLE

You will work within the Humanoid & Human Centred Mechatronics Research Line at IIT, a multicultural and multidisciplinary group with expertise in robot design, modeling, and control.

The research unit, led by Nikos Tsagarakis, focuses on innovative robot design, control, and teleoperation, including whole-body manipulation, balancing, and regulation.

This position is funded by INAIL to develop advanced, intuitive tele-operation robots aimed at reducing health and safety risks for workers. You will develop high-performance teleoperation software for a new mobile robotic system in hazardous industries, working on the tele-manipulation and haptics software of the master station, integrating haptic systems into the overall setup for remote operation tasks.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree (or excellent first degree) with at least 3 years of proven software development experience.
  • Portfolio of substantial projects in robotics, mechatronics, VR, teleoperation, or related fields.
  • Experience in Object-Oriented programming (C++) on Linux and Windows.
  • Knowledge of forward and inverse kinematics and their implementation using relevant libraries.
  • Experience with robotics platforms/tools such as ROS, Rviz, Gazebo, Bullet, MuJoCo is advantageous.
  • Understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, sockets) and experience working on high-performance teleoperation software in Windows and Linux.
  • Knowledge of multithreaded software design, IPC techniques, shared memory, mutexes, etc.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • Experience in developing device drivers as shared or dynamic libraries in Windows and Linux.
  • Experience with GUI development tools like QT is a plus.
  • Ability to work proactively and autonomously in a fast-paced environment, and as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; Italian is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel for meetings and demonstrations.
