Software Development Manager, Digital Payments and Emerging Markets

We are looking for a Software Development Manager (SDM) to play a key role in the Digital Payments & Emerging Markets (DEP) team, primarily building Amazon's Mexico Payments Products. This role offers exciting challenges and the opportunity to influence and drive a growing payments area.

As a DEP SDM, you will manage a team of very talented software engineers who are working on defining the vision for our payment products in emerging markets and delivering exciting initiatives. You will regularly interact with executive leadership and other tech teams as you design and deliver state of the art technology to evolve our products. You’ll work in a fast-paced environment and will be required to lead not only at the strategic level, but also tactically day-to-day by diving deeply into business and technical domains.

To accomplish this, you will be expected to have an established background in technology, excellent project and people management skills, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment. You are somebody who enjoys working on complex system software, is customer-centric, and feels strongly about building good software as well as making that software achieve its operational goals. Experience with building and operating web-based applications and/or web services-based applications, especially at massive scale, will be very applicable and helpful.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Recruit, manage and lead a team of software and system developer engineers with focus on end to end network product development
  • Make high judgment decisions on how to accomplish and prioritize among new features, operational efficiency improvements, software resiliency and reliability initiatives
  • Lead by example and foster technical innovation within the team through design reviews, process improvements, identifying technical bottlenecks and encouraging measured risk taking when providing solutions
  • Strategically develop software and metrics to enable strong data driven approaches for key business decisions
  • Manage Project execution and delivery

Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of engineering experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
