Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

We are seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our dynamic project team in our Florence, Italy office. In this role, you will collaborate closely with developers to create, develop, maintain, and automate test cases, both manually and within our defined automation framework. We are looking for someone who is innovative, self-motivated, and eager to develop new skills while continuously improving existing abilities. A passion for problem-solving, tool development, and hardware-software interoperability is essential.

What You Will Do

1. Develop test plans to verify and validate automated tank gauge features.
2. Design, develop, and execute software solutions based on test requirements and technical specifications to ensure quality on our automated tank gauge and related platforms.
3. Continuously improve the test automation framework.
4. Create automation execution reports that communicate failed tests and failure points to stakeholders.
5. Integrate automated tests into the make/build process for continuous integration using frameworks such as Jenkins or Bamboo (either directly or by assisting DevOps).
6. Support non-functional testing (stress, performance/load, and security testing) with automation and test data as needed.
7. Review and refactor existing automated tests and enhance our automation regression technology to ensure software quality improvement and efficiency.
8. Communicate test results and highlight potential quality risks.
9. Ensure test automation design is traceable to requirements or user stories and achieves a high level of requirement/test coverage.

Who You Are

1. Experience with test automation frameworks is required, as well as experience in a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) or Automation Engineer role.
2. Proficiency in object-oriented programming languages (Java preferred).
3. Proven ability to write automated test scripts to validate APIs, software functionality, and firmware using automation tools and frameworks including NUnit, C++, C#, Junit, TestNG, NodeJS, Java, Python, Selenium, and Python.
4. Experience using Selenium to automate WebUI tests.
5. Good knowledge of both Linux and Windows operating systems.
6. Familiarity with CI/CD tools (such as Jenkins, Bamboo, Travis).
7. Experience with version control systems like SVN and/or Git.
8. Experience working in project teams and/or as part of an Agile SCRUM project team, with familiarity in Test Driven Development (TDD) or Behaviour Driven Development (BDD) being a plus.

Other Experience

1. Knowledge or experience in configuring and troubleshooting hardware is a plus.
2. Experience with hardware single-board computers (Beagle Bone, Raspberry Pi) is a plus.
3. Familiarity with TestNG and writing assertions.
4. Experience with TDD/BDD and a solid understanding of electronics fundamentals.
5. Experience with other UI automation tools (such as QT) and Linux scripting (bash) is a plus.
