Institute Itech is seeking a Software Developer Engineer Manager (SDEM) to lead innovative projects like the Alzheimer's Project, Terra, and Oxyleaf. This part-time, unpaid role offers an opportunity to shape the technical architecture and work with a motivated team, contributing to meaningful social and technological advancements.
SDEM - Software Developer Engineer Manager : Part-time, unpaid during the early phase. Hybrid work model (remote and / or on-site in Milan, Rome, or Boston). Travel and meeting expenses will be reimbursed upon approval. An NDA must be signed.

Assistive technologies for cognitive support, monitoring, and caregiver tools Oxyleaf
Synthetic plants for urban energy generation, air purification, and heat mitigation Terra – Underground sensor systems for monitoring soil health, climate, and environmental conditions
The company is legally incorporated, but not yet operational. We are currently in the brainstorming and conceptualisation phase, launching our first pilot projects and defining the foundation of the business. Everything is being built from the ground up — with clarity of intent, ambition, and a long-term vision.
About the Role : We are looking for a
Software Developer Engineer Manager (SDEM)
to lead the technical architecture and development roadmap of these projects. You will serve as the technical lead and coordinate the development group from its earliest stages.
As SDEM, you will : Define the technical infrastructure and software roadmap Lead the design of backend systems, APIs, dashboards, and app interfaces Collaborate on sensor integration, data flows, and AI modules where applicable Organize, recruit, and coordinate the internal development team Ensure code quality, scalability, and future-proofing of early solutions Work closely with the CEO & CTO and project leaders on tech strategy
Requirements : Minimum 5 years of experience in software engineering (full-stack, backend, or embedded systems) Hands-on experience in building and deploying production-level systems Strong understanding of cloud environments, APIs, databases, and DevOps pipelines Autonomous and capable of managing complexity with limited resources Excellent communication and team leadership skills Fluent in English (Italian is a plus)
Preferred Qualifications : Background in healthtech, environmental systems, IoT or edge computing Previous experience in startups, research-based projects, or interdisciplinary teams Passion for ethical innovation, sustainability, and social impact Willingness to grow into a long-term leadership role within the company
