Role purpose:

As a Single RAN Access System Engineer, you will be part of the global Mobile Access Engineering organization that aims to deliver superior mobile network design through innovative engineering, optimization, and implementation across Vodafone.

You will work in a dynamic, multinational environment to define the details of our Mobile Access Network architectures, radio solutions, and configurations across markets where Vodafone operates or partners.

Your responsibilities include planning and executing Radio Software Product Verification and Integration for all Radio Technologies, with a focus on Nokia Radio supplier. Designing, engineering, and optimizing radio products are key to delivering the best network and connectivity experience for our customers.

As a System RAN Access System Engineer, you will work with cutting-edge radio technologies, promoting research and innovations for future radio networks, emphasizing automation, software-defined networks, energy efficiency, and ultra-reliable networks. You will learn about operating, building, and evolving RAN networks, and how emerging technologies like 5G, virtualization, AI/ML, and Open RAN will shape future connectivity services.

You will also be involved in projects, including research activities within the RESTART program, collaborating with partners, universities, and telecom companies to support the project's mission.

Key accountabilities and decision ownership:
  • Support the evolution of our Radio Networks by designing and introducing new radio solutions and capabilities.
  • Manage and oversee Product Verification and integration activities, ensuring proper planning and execution.
  • Support the definition of next-generation technologies and capabilities in our Radio networks.
  • Ensure the exploitation of innovations and automation in new product introductions and verifications.
  • Support Restart program activities and incorporate related findings into our networks.
Key performance indicators:
  • Successful delivery of high-performance, cost-efficient Radio solutions.
  • Achievement of zero-defect Radio solutions.
  • Meeting or exceeding automation and innovation goals in our network, especially in software-defined networks.
Core competencies, knowledge, and experience:
  • Good knowledge of wireless technologies.
  • Understanding of 3GPP radio access technologies (2G, 4G, 5G) and protocols.
  • Knowledge of Open RAN and software-defined network concepts.
  • Ability to learn and manage complex technologies.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and SQL.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML technologies.
  • Experience in coordinating with suppliers and engaging with stakeholders for project delivery.
  • Ability to interact and negotiate technically with suppliers.
Must-have technical/professional qualifications:
  • Degree in Telecommunication/Electronics Engineering.
  • Awareness of broader technology aspects in telecommunications and ICT.
  • Knowledge of 3GPP Radio Protocols.
  • Experience in testing and product verification is a plus.
  • Teamwork skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and support decision-making.
