The FAO Health Services (CSLH), which is a part of the Logistics Services Division (CSL), provides preventative medical, counselling and occupational health services to FAO employees and their dependents, and advice on all health related matters to the Organization. Within the Health Services, the administrative team is responsible, among other services, for monitoring and recording certified sick leave requests from FAO staff worldwide. The function contributes to ensuring effective management and control of absences for health reasons and supporting return to work to maintain a healthy productive workforce in the Organization.
The Sick Leave Management consultant works in conjunction with the Sick Leave Management colleagues to ensure up to date information and adherence to the rules as outlined in the manual section, within which professional integrity and confidentiality are amongst the highest requirements.
The position is located in the Health Services of the Logistics Services Division at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.
Reporting Lines
The Sick Leave Management Administrator works in close collaboration and under the oversight of Sick Leave Case Manager and reports directly to FAO Deputy Chief of Health Services or his/her designate.
Technical Focus
Communication, data entry and production of simple reports related to absences for health reasons.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Act as a case manager liaising among CSLH, CSH, Affiliate Workforce Services and the patient to facilitate request processing;
- Prepare long-term sick leave cases ensuring compatibility of the process with the relevant FAO rules and regulations;
- Monitor on a daily basis incoming certified sick leave requests, for validation and referral to medical doctors as necessary;
- Record data and supporting medical documentation in the medical system (Cority);
- Liaise with employees and managers as necessary to clarify requests, respond to queries and ensure the necessary documentation is submitted;
- Prepare documentation and produce reports on sick leave;
- Prepare and attend weekly meetings with CSLH doctors to monitor cases;
- Provide activity reports to supervisor at least once a month;
- Perform other duties as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
- University degree or specific technical specialization, in business administration/international relations/economics or related fields;
- Two years of relevant experience in office support work;
- Working knowledge (proficiency – Level C) of English.

Technical/Functional Skills
- Work experience in more than one location or area of office-administrative work;
- Good knowledge of the UN System internal policies, practices, and procedures including dealing with sensitive and confidential information is highly desirable;
- Proven ability to plan and prioritize own work, and to work independently;
- Knowledge of the MS Office applications, Internet and office technology equipment;
- Additional training or certification in Microsoft Office applications and healthcare database systems are added advantage.
Selection Criteria
- Intermediate knowledge (intermediate proficiency - level B) of another FAO official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is considered an asset;
- Knowledge of Italian (Level C) would be considered an added advantage;
- Knowledge of United Nations Human Resources rules would be considered an added advantage.
