Position Information

Job Title: Workshop Service Technician Department: Earthmoving European Service Station Reports to: Service Manager Work Location: Hub-based at Regional Headquarters / Central Warehouse (e.g., Manchester, Rotterdam, Frankfurt, Bingen, Milan, Warsaw, Paris).

Job Summary As the technical backbone of the regional service hub, the Workshop Service Technician ensures the highest quality standards for all equipment entering and leaving the facility. This role is strictly focused on technical excellence, responsible for executing Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI), maintaining inventory machine health, performing in-shop heavy repairs, and executing factory modifications. While primarily based in the workshop or machine warehouse, this role also serves as a critical agile backup to the field service team during emergencies or staff shortages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) & Machine Preparation
  • PDI Execution: Conduct comprehensive mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical inspections on all newly arrived machines based on strict factory checklists to ensure they are 100% defect-free before delivery to dealers or Top VIP accounts.
  • Machine Prep & Assembly: Install optional attachments, configure software settings, and ensure the machine is thoroughly cleaned, washed, and cosmetically perfect before dispatch.
  • Transport Damage Handling: Identify, report, and expertly repair any damages that occurred during international shipping or local transport.
  • Inventory Machine Maintenance
  • Routine Yard Maintenance: Execute the scheduled maintenance program for all machines stored in the regional yard (e.g., periodic engine startups, battery charging, lubrication, moving machines to prevent tire/seal degradation).
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure all inventory machines are kept in a "ready-to-sell" condition at all times, minimizing degradation caused by long-term storage in European weather conditions.
  • In-Shop Heavy Repair & Modifications
  • Service Campaigns: Proactively execute mandatory factory modifications (Campaigns) and Technical Service Bulletins (PIPs/PSPs) on inventory machines before they are sold.
  • Heavy Overhauls: Handle highly complex repair jobs that cannot be performed in the field due to environmental or equipment constraints (e.g., major engine overhauls, hydraulic pump replacements requiring overhead workshop cranes).
  • EHS Compliance: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment, strictly adhering to European EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) standards, including proper waste oil disposal and tool calibration.
  • Agile Field Support & Backup
  • Cross-Support: Act as the emergency backup for Field Service Representatives (PSSRs) during their annual leave, training, or during periods of unusually high VIP breakdown volume.
  • Emergency Dispatch: When deployed to the field, utilize the regional Pool Fleet to diagnose and resolve equipment issues at customer sites, ensuring SLA commitments are met.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Educational Background:
  • An Associate’s degree, Diploma, or vocational certificate in mechanical engineering, heavy machinery repair, mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Work Experience:
  • At least 3 years of hands‑on experience in heavy equipment repair, preferably within a structured dealership or OEM workshop environment.
  • Experience with construction machinery (excavators, loaders) is highly preferred.
  • Skills & Competencies
  • Core Technical Skills: Expert-level knowledge of diesel engines, heavy‑duty hydraulics, and electrical systems. Proficient in using OEM diagnostic tools.
  • Workshop Operations: Familiar with operating workshop overhead cranes, heavy lifting equipment, and basic welding/fabrication skills are a strong plus.
  • Mobility: Valid standard driver's license (Class B) is required. Forklift operation certification is highly desirable.
  • Language Requirement
  • Mandatory: Native or full professional proficiency in the official language of the country where the hub is located.
  • Preferred: Basic to intermediate English proficiency to read technical manuals, software interfaces, and communicate with headquarters support.
  • Personal Attributes
  • Highly detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality control (crucial for PDI).
  • Safety-first mindset with strict adherence to workshop protocols.
  • Team player who is flexible and willing to step into the field when the team needs backup.
  • Preferred qualifications
  • Previous workshop experience with international construction machinery brands (e.g., Caterpillar, Volvo CE, Liebherr, Komatsu).
