Senior Renewable Energy Technical Consultant (Solar and Storage) – Milan, Italy

We are seeking an experienced Senior Renewable Energy Technical Advisor specializing in the Italian solar and storage sectors. This role is based in Milan, with options for flexible remote working.

Role Overview

As a Senior Technical Consultant, you will provide expert engineering guidance on solar photovoltaic (PV), battery energy storage systems (BESS), and hybrid renewable energy projects. Your primary focus will be on grid connection studies, permitting processes, and technical due diligence to support project development and financing in the Italian market.

You will collaborate closely with developers, operators, lenders, and investors to ensure technical and regulatory compliance, mitigate risks, and support successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead technical due diligence for solar, storage, and hybrid projects with an emphasis on:
  • Grid connection assessments, including network capacity analysis, interconnection requirements, and coordination with grid operators
  • Permitting and regulatory compliance reviews, covering local environmental and land use permits, grid codes, and authorization processes
  • Technical risk identification related to energy yield, project timelines, CAPEX/OPEX, and propose mitigation strategies
  • Perform solar resource analysis and energy production modelling using industry-standard tools (e.g., PVsyst)
  • Support construction and commissioning oversight, including owner’s engineer responsibilities
  • Review and interpret technical documentation, construction and operation contracts to ensure alignment with engineering requirements and risk management
  • Prepare clear and concise technical reports and presentations tailored to client needs
  • Manage multiple projects, coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Provide technical expertise to support business development efforts and strengthen client relationships

Candidate Profile

  • MEng or equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Fluent in Italian and English (written and spoken)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in technical consulting within the renewable energy sector, including: Grid connection planning and liaison with network operators in Italy. Permitting and regulatory frameworks specific to solar and storage projects in Italy. Conducting technical due diligence and risk assessments for renewable energy projects
  • Strong ability to interpret technical drawings, grid studies, and regulatory documents
  • Experience in construction monitoring, commissioning, or owner’s engineer roles is highly desirable
  • Excellent consultancy skills: client-oriented, effective communicator, able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Willingness to travel as needed for project support
