The ideal candidate will assist in workshop operations, providing technical support and ensuring equipment functionality. Senior Technical Assistant

(Metalwork, Electronics / Electrical Support)

Applicants should possess a higher diploma/ diploma in Engineering or equivalent, with hands-on experience in metalwork, workshop machining such as lathe and milling, welding, or electrical/ electronic support of the equipment maintenance and installation. Applicants with at least two years’ related working experience and knowledge in metalwork design and production or maintenance/repair of instruments are preferred. Registered Electrical Workers (Grade A) will be an advantage. Apart from being self-motivated in learning across disciplines, responsible and well-organized, they should also possess good problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as a team player in a multi-disciplinary environment. Preference will be given to those with experience in similar industries/organizations.

The appointee will be expected to assist the research or teaching activities in the daily operation of the Metalwork Workshop and Electronics Workshop for undergraduate courses and research projects. He/ She will work closely with the researchers and other technical staff to fabricate, assemble, or modify experimental setup with craftsmanship and efficiency. They may also be required to provide technical support to research post-graduate students, events and ad-hoc projects as assigned. On-job training of the operation of equipment will be provided. The appointee may also be required to work outside normal office hours on rare occasions. Shortlisted candidates of the position will be invited to attend an interview.

Senior Technical Assistant / Laboratory Assistant

(Structural Engineering/ Geotechnical Engineering)

Applicants should possess a higher diploma/ diploma in Engineering or equivalent, with hands-on experience in the operation, installation and data acquisition of common instruments and equipment for material testing or geotechnical studies. At least two years’ related working experience is preferred. Knowledge in solid mechanics, concrete technology or soil/ rock mechanics would be helpful. Apart from being self-motivated in learning across disciplines, responsible and well-organized, they should also possess good problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as a team player in a multi-disciplinary environment. Preference will be given to those with experience in similar industries/organizations and qualified gantry crane/ forklift operator.

The appointee will be expected to assist the academic staff primarily in the daily operation of the Concrete Technology, or Rock Laboratories for undergraduate courses and research projects, and possibly in laboratories of related disciplines, e.g. Material Testing, Structural Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering Laboratories. They may also be required to provide technical support to research post-graduate students, events and ad-hoc projects as assigned. On-job training of the operation of equipment will be provided. He/She may also be required to work outside normal office hours on rare occasions. Shortlisted candidates of the position will be invited to attend an interview.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.
