The Red Hat OpenShift Service Mesh team is seeking a motivated Senior Software Engineer to join us. In this role, you will help improve and optimize Istio for use within our enterprise Kubernetes platform, Red Hat OpenShift. You will collaborate with Red Hat and the Istio community to deliver features, enhancements, and bug fixes, benefiting our customers and the wider Istio user community.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Collaborate with senior engineers and the Istio community on feature development, enhancements, and bug fixes.
2. Develop demonstrations of Istio features within Red Hat OpenShift.
3. Assist support teams in resolving customer issues.
4. Contribute to improving documentation related to Istio within OpenShift.
5. Engage with open source project teams and communities globally.
6. Explore and integrate emerging AI technologies into workflows and tools.

Qualifications:

1. Proven experience in designing, coding, testing, and releasing products in Go, especially networking applications.
2. Knowledge of networking protocols such as TCP, TLS, HTTP, HTTPS.
3. Experience with cloud technologies like Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker, or similar.
4. Proficiency with git, GitHub, and Jira.
5. Open source contribution experience is a plus.
6. Previous experience with Istio, Envoy, or similar projects is advantageous.
7. Strong problem-solving skills with minimal supervision.
8. Passion for open source and good communication skills in English.
