Job Description:

We are seeking a Senior Radio Frequency Subsystem Designer.

The candidate will be assigned to one of the following roles:

  • Technical responsible for the TT&C communications subsystem of the ExoMars Rosalind Franklin Mission (RFM), which will communicate with the Ground Segment on Earth from Deep Space throughout all mission phases.
  • Technical responsible for the communications subsystem of the Deep Space Platform study, contributing to the relay communication infrastructure around Mars.
Key duties:
  • Specification and design of Radio Frequency Subsystems (Telemetry, Tracking and Command, Planetary Communications, Interplanetary Data Relay Systems) and related units (Transponder, Antennas, RFDN, Cables, TWTA, SSPA, Switches).
  • Specification and design of electrical and communication interfaces between the Communications Subsystem and Data Handling Subsystem.
  • Specification and design of protocols for Ground communication, including Link Budgets and Data Volume calculations.
  • Procurement of Communications subsystem and units following subcontractor activities.
  • Support for Communications subsystem integration and testing (AIT) with system avionics.
  • Participation in technical meetings and reviews with the Customer.
Skills, experience, and qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Telecommunication Engineering, Aerospace Engineering with a focus on telecommunications, or Electronic Engineering.
  • At least 3 years of experience or internship in RF Subsystems design or testing at subsystem or unit level (Transponder, Antennas, etc.), with knowledge in:
    • Analysis of S/C to Ground communication scenarios.
    • Synthesis of RF subsystem architecture.
    • Analysis and Modeling tools (Matlab/Simulink, FECO, STK, etc.).
    • ECSS and CCSDS standards relevant to Communications systems.
    • Space-qualified components used in TT&C units (Memories, FPGA, ADC, DAC, etc.).
    • Specification’s configuration control tools (DOORS).
    • Structured Programming techniques and languages (C, C++, Python) are a plus.
  • Proficient in English.
  • Willingness to work abroad for short periods.
  • Ability to work with diverse cultures.
  • Strong communication skills to present and discuss solutions with the Customer.
