Job description

The opportunity

A Milan-headquartered offshore energy contractor, part of a Fortune 500 multinational group, is hiring a Senior Project Manager to take ownership of a major work package within a flagship offshore project.

Alias Executive Search & Consulting, an Italian executive search firm with an international network across EMEA, LATAM and North America, has been retained to manage this search on a confidential basis.

The company

Our client delivers complex offshore and onshore energy projects on an EPC/EPCIC basis, with operations across multiple countries.

The company is currently:

  • executing a major offshore mega-project as consortium leader for an Energy Major;
  • strengthening its international project delivery capabilities;
  • expanding beyond traditional upstream activities into midstream and carbon capture.

The organisation operates with a deliberately leaner structure than a traditional EPC contractor.

For a Project Manager, this means:

  • short decision-making lines;
  • direct access to the Client and executive management;
  • high visibility across the organisation;
  • genuine ownership and accountability for project results.

The role

Reporting directly to the Director of Projects, the Senior Project Manager will assume full accountability for assigned EPC/EPCIC work packages, from contract award through:

  • Engineering;
  • Procurement;
  • Construction;
  • Offshore installation;
  • Commissioning;
  • Handover.

The role combines project delivery, commercial responsibility, client management and multidisciplinary leadership.

Project delivery & execution

You will:

  • lead integrated project delivery across all phases, ensuring alignment with HSE, quality, schedule and cost targets;
  • define the project execution strategy and coordinate the interfaces between Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation;
  • establish and continuously monitor project controls, KPIs, milestones and critical paths;
  • identify deviations early and implement the necessary corrective and recovery actions;
  • manage project risks and opportunities throughout the full project lifecycle.

Organisation & leadership

You will have the authority to shape your own project organisation, defining the appropriate structure and resources across functions including:

  • Engineering;
  • Contracts;
  • Planning;
  • Cost Control;
  • Quality Assurance;
  • HSE;
  • Logistics;
  • Construction;
  • Interface Management.

You will also:

  • lead, coach and develop a multidisciplinary and multicultural project team;
  • establish clear accountability across the project organisation;
  • drive collaboration between internal functions, partners, subcontractors and external stakeholders.

Client & stakeholder management

You will act as the primary management representative towards:

  • the Client;
  • consortium and joint-venture partners;
  • contractors and subcontractors;
  • regulatory and relevant external authorities.

The role requires the ability to manage complex stakeholder environments while maintaining a strong focus on project objectives and contractual commitments.

Commercial & financial accountability

The Senior Project Manager will own the commercial performance of the assigned work package, including:

  • contract administration;
  • variations and change orders;
  • claims and contractual negotiations;
  • cost performance;
  • forecasting;
  • cash flow;
  • project profitability.

You will work closely with the Director of Projects and Finance function to ensure alignment between operational delivery and financial performance.

HSE & quality

You will set the standard for:

  • Health, Safety and Environment;
  • process safety;
  • offshore safety requirements;
  • quality performance;
  • compliance throughout all project activities.

You will ensure that HSE and quality considerations remain embedded in every major project decision.

Executive reporting

You will provide clear and concise reporting on:

  • overall project status;
  • schedule and cost performance;
  • commercial exposure;
  • key risks and opportunities;
  • critical decisions requiring escalation.

Reporting will be directed to the Project Director and executive management, giving the role significant organisational visibility.

What you bring

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Master's degree in Engineering or a closely related technical discipline;
  • at least 15 years of experience in Oil & Gas and Energy;
  • substantial experience delivering large-scale EPC and EPCIC projects;
  • a proven track record on complex offshore projects, from award through final handover;
  • direct offshore execution experience, which is considered essential;
  • strong knowledge of:
  • project controls;
  • cost management;
  • planning and scheduling;
  • contract administration;
  • claims and change management;
  • risk and opportunity management;
  • strong commercial awareness, with the ability to take accountability for margin, cash flow and profitability, not only schedule and technical delivery;
  • thorough knowledge of HSE management systems and offshore safety requirements;
  • experience leading multidisciplinary and multicultural teams in international environments;
  • experience working within consortium, joint-venture or multi-partner project structures;
  • fluent English, both written and spoken.

Experience with enterprise project management and ERP systems will be considered an advantage.

Particularly relevant experience

The following backgrounds will be especially valuable:

  • deep-water offshore projects;
  • FPSO projects;
  • complex subsea or offshore installation programmes;
  • major international EPC/EPCIC contracts;
  • direct exposure to Energy Major clients;
  • high-value work packages with significant contractual and commercial complexity.

Beyond technical experience, we are looking for someone with the ambition to make a multi-year commitment and progressively grow towards broader project and organisational leadership responsibilities.

What is on offer

The company offers:

  • benefits aligned with multinational group policies;
  • full ownership of a high-value offshore work package delivered to Energy Major standards;
  • the financial and organisational backing of a Fortune 500 multinational group;
  • the speed, visibility and decision-making access of a lean project organisation;
  • direct exposure to senior leadership and strategic clients;
  • clear scope to grow into broader project leadership responsibilities as the organisation expands;
  • an international and multicultural working environment.

Candidates of all nationalities are welcome.

Location

Milan headquarters – Full-time position

The role will initially require an extended period at the Milan headquarters to support project mobilisation, integration and execution planning.

This will subsequently be followed by:

  • international travel;
  • project-site presence;
  • offshore or overseas assignments where required;

in accordance with the different phases of the project lifecycle.

How to apply

Candidates can apply through LinkedIn with an up-to-date CV or contact Alias Executive Search & Consulting directly.

Every application will be treated in strict confidence.

The identity of the client will be disclosed to selected candidates during the recruitment process.

The search is open to candidates of any gender, age and nationality in accordance with L. 903/77, D.Lgs. 198/2006, D.Lgs. 215/2003 and D.Lgs. 216/2003.
