Nikon SLM Solutions AG, a leader in additive manufacturing, seeks a Senior Product Control System Engineer in our Italian hub. You will shape the automation architecture for next‑generation Nikon SLM metal systems, bridging Italian and German engineering teams and driving cross‑functional alignment across control and software domains.

You will lead machine control system definitions, I/O interfaces, and subsystem concepts, guiding testing, validation and commissioning while aligning with product

Competenze

  • Several years of experience in industrial automation, machine control systems, and complex machinery development.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions and decisions in an international environment.
  • Wiring diagrams knowledge and software understanding relevant to control systems.

Mansioni

  • Drive requirements consolidation for the Machine Control System of Nikon SLM machines and peripherals.
  • Develop overall control system architectures and functional concepts.
  • Coordinate with the Germany PCS team and internal stakeholders to define subsystem concepts.
  • Define Machine Control System I/O and interfaces (mechanical, logical, electrical) for system and external interfaces.
  • Collaborate with Software Development in Italy to implement concepts in software and control logic.
  • Provide technical guidance during testing, validation, and commissioning activities.
  • Support analysis, rectification and adjustments of systems.
  • Contribute to assess customer needs, technology trends and control system strategy.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

As the first Senior Product Control System Engineer in our growing Italian engineering hub, you will play a key role in shaping the automation architecture of our next-generation metal additive manufacturing systems. Working closely with our established PCS team in Germany, you will act as the technical interface between our Italian and German engineering teams, driving cross-functional alignment and technical decision-making across multiple engineering disciplines.

The Senior PCS Engineer is the Control System technical leader for assigned projects and programs (new product or peripherals development, or changes to existing ones) and connects the process development, system development and machine safety teams on one side, with the software development, electrical, and pneumatic design teams on the other.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Driving the identification and consolidation of requirements for the Machine Control System of Nikon SLM machines and peripheral devices
  • Develop overall control system architectures and functional concepts, translating system requirements into subsystem-level solutions
  • Strong communication and coordination with internal control system design team in Germany and other internal company stakeholders in the development of individual subsystem concepts for the Machine Control System
  • Drive the definition of Machine Control System I/O and interfaces (mechanical, logical, electrical) within the system and with external systems
  • Coordination with the Software Development team in Italy in implementing concepts in software, control system logics and algorithms to realize design requirements
  • Provide technical guidance and expert support during system testing, validation and commissioning activities
  • Support analysis, rectification and adjustments of systems
  • Contributing to assess customer needs, technology trends and definition of Control System Product strategy
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in the field of engineering (mechanical, electrical, aerospace), automation technology or comparable
  • Several years of experience in industrial automation, machine control systems, application control or complex machinery development
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering, understanding of wiring diagrams as well as software development
  • Proven ability to act as a technical lead, system owner or key technical decision-maker within complex engineering projects
  • Ability to drive technical discussions and decisions in an international engineering environment
  • You enjoy coordinating across disciplines, locations and teams and you thrive in an international environment where communication is just as important as technical expertise
