Senior Process Safety Engineer – Green H2 & Derivatives
The applicant will participate in the development of the company’s green hydrogen and derived e-Fuels projects, focusing on all process safety engineering aspects. The role involves ensuring the safety-focused design of project facilities to minimize risks to stakeholders and communities.
Mission / Objectives
- Design safety installations and review safety studies (e.g., safety reviews, risk analysis, explosion and blast analysis, CFD modelling, gas detection) to approve engineering documentation and guide safety practices among stakeholders;
- Develop and update company safety standards, considering regulatory requirements and industry best practices, to serve as guidelines for engineering teams, contractors, and vendors.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Manage the process safety strategy for hydrogen and derivatives plants throughout all engineering phases, providing guidance to project teams;
- Conduct qualitative risk assessments with stakeholder input;
- Preliminarily size fire-fighting facilities, define F&G design philosophies, and classify hazardous areas;
- Support decision-making on equipment and infrastructure safety aspects during plant design;
- Prepare safety documentation for local authorities, including fire and explosion analyses, and risk assessments;
- Review safety documentation from third parties, ensuring compliance with standards and regulations;
- Stay updated on technical developments, standards, and legislation related to safety;
- Participate in safety workshops such as HAZOP, SIL/LOPA, HAZID;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in designing safety systems and conducting risk assessments for large-scale oil & gas, petrochemical, or hydrogen facilities;
- Experience with HAZID, HAZOP, SIL assessments, occupational safety, and hazard management;
- Proficiency with software like DNV Phast/Safeti or Gexcon Effects;
- Knowledge of regulations, standards, and industry best practices;
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams on process plant projects;
- Excellent English communication skills; Portuguese is a plus;
- Experience with hydrogen systems and familiarity with safety legislation in relevant countries (Portugal, Spain, Italy, Germany) is advantageous;
- Additional language skills (German, Spanish, Italian) are beneficial.
