What is Accountable? Accountable is a young fintech / taxtech company focused on helping the self-employed automate their accounting and taxes with a simple mobile and web app. We are 60 people spread across offices in Berlin and Brussels, as well as remote locations throughout Europe. Our goal is to create a product that is incredibly easy and fun to use, requiring no knowledge of tax or accounting. We’re growing at a rate of more than 150% per year, and aim to become the European leader in our market.

The job

As a Node.js backend engineer, you will join one of our squads. You will collaborate closely with product managers, tax coaches, and other engineers to develop scalable and compliant solutions for self-employed users and accountants. You will be part of a larger engineering team (18-25 developers) and work within a squad led by a Product Owner, owning a specific part of the application.

Responsibilities

1. Code, maintain, and coordinate the evolution of the current application.
2. Collaborate with the product team on the definition, evolution, and maintenance of our code.
3. Help define strategic initiatives to improve code, guidelines, processes, tools, infrastructure, and workflows.
4. Troubleshoot and debug issues using application logs.
5. Review code through Pull Requests.

Desired Skills & Experience

1. You have 5+ years of industry experience in backend development and REST APIs.
2. Proficiency in written and spoken English.
3. You are an expert in Typescript.
4. You are comfortable in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
5. You are capable of solving complex engineering problems.
6. You have a good understanding of modern Typescript / Node.js development methodologies, processes, and tooling.
7. You adopt a pragmatic engineering approach that balances seamless experiences, beautiful code, maintainability, and time to market.
8. You value a strong code-review culture.
9. You are curious about new technologies and driven to implement them in your work.
10. Experience with Domain Driven Design (DDD) and Event-Driven Architectures is a plus.
