Senior Hydroelectric Mechanical Engineer

Webuild is seeking a Senior Hydroelectric Mechanical Engineer to join the Operations Sub-Saharan Africa division at the Rome headquarters.

The position is based in Rome and involves long-term assignments (minimum 1 month) in China. After one year, the employee will be permanently transferred to the Koysha Dam construction site in Ethiopia.

The candidate should have a solid understanding of mechanical and hydro-mechanical systems, relevant principles and practices, and effective collaboration with other technical disciplines involved in hydropower operations.

The role involves providing mechanical engineering services, including technical support, supervision, ensuring technical excellence, team supervision, and adherence to design, timelines, and budgets.

Main Responsibilities :

• Prepare and review technical documentation, including schematics, blueprints, and reports, in coordination with suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with requirements and design criteria.
• Provide ongoing engineering support to address detailed design issues.
• Participate in design review meetings with stakeholders and verify responses before issuance.
• Collaborate with electrical, civil, and other engineering disciplines.
• Perform QA/QC inspections, review/test plans, and support commissioning activities.
• Coordinate factory inspections and testing activities.
• Manage design interfaces with other discipline leads.
• Coordinate with construction and commissioning teams during erection and startup of mechanical equipment.
• Monitor work progress, identify issues, and report on scope gaps or additional requirements.

Qualifications & Skills :

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in power generation; experience in inspections is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems such as turbines, pumps, and generators.
• Willingness to undertake international assignments and relocate to Ethiopia after one year.
• Proficiency in English; Italian language skills are a plus.
• Proficiency in CAD and engineering tools.
• Knowledge of project management and industry standards.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Strong project management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in diverse environments and perform physical tasks as needed.
