Senior Hydroelectric Mechanical Engineer

Webuild is seeking a Senior Hydroelectric Mechanical Engineer to join the Operations Sub-Saharan Africa division at the Rome headquarters.

The role is based in Rome and involves long-term assignments (minimum 1 month) in China. After one year, the employee will be permanently transferred to the Koysha Dam construction site in Ethiopia.

The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of mechanical and hydro-mechanical systems, relevant principles and practices, and effective collaboration skills with other technical disciplines involved in hydropower operations.

The responsibilities include providing technical support and supervision, ensuring technical excellence, supervising teams, and managing design, timelines, and budgets.

Main responsibilities :

• Prepare and review technical documentation such as schematics, blueprints, and reports in coordination with suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
• Provide ongoing engineering support to resolve detailed design issues.
• Participate in design review meetings with project stakeholders and verify responses before issuance.
• Collaborate with electrical, civil, and other engineering disciplines.
• Perform QA/QC inspections, review and develop Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and support commissioning activities for mechanical scopes.
• Coordinate factory inspections and testing activities.
• Manage design interfaces with civil, architecture, electromechanical, electrical engineers, and other discipline leads.
• Coordinate during erection and commissioning of mechanical equipment, including hydro-mechanical, turbines, generators, and associated systems.
• Monitor work progress, identify issues, and report on project status.

Qualifications & Skills :

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in power generation; experience in technical inspections is advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems such as turbines, pumps, and generators.
• Willingness to undertake international assignments and relocate to the Koysha Dam site after one year.
• Proficiency in English; Italian language skills are a plus.
• Proficiency in CAD and engineering software.
• Experience with project management tools.
• Knowledge of industry standards, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Strong project management and communication skills, adaptable to diverse teams.
• Willingness to work in various environmental conditions and perform physical tasks.
