Nature Geoscience is seeking an Interim Associate or Senior Editor with geophysics expertise to shape content and strategy for a leading Earth sciences journal. The role covers manuscript assessment, peer-review oversight, and commissioning of reviews or editorials, with travel to engage the global scientific community.

Candidates should show broad scientific interests beyond their specialty, strong communication skills, and readiness for international collaboration.

Competenze

• A PhD (or equivalent) in a field related to geophysics.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including fluent English (written and spoken).
• The ability to read and assess the novelty, context and implications of research submitted to the journal from different areas of this discipline.
• Be eager to travel and meet scientists worldwide, learn more about them and help them learn more about us and what we are looking for in the papers we seek to publish.
• Editorial experience is not required, although applicants with editorial experience are encouraged to apply and may be considered for Senior Editor positions.

• Manuscript Assessment and Critical Scientific Evaluation - Handling original research papers and working closely with editor teams on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.
• Decision Quality - Making well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in the light of expert advice.
• Scientific Comprehension - Contributing to content and strategy in this area at Nature Geoscience
• Scientific & Academic Writing - Commissioning, editing content such as Reviews, or writing editorials.
• Liaising extensively with editors at other journals in the Nature Portfolio and with experts in the international scientific community – Collaboration, Communicates Effectively.
• Attending conferences and visiting research institutions.
