Labora Partners is seeking a Senior Expert – Data Centers in Milan, Italy to provide consultancy on HV/MV electrical infrastructure and grid connections for data centres. The candidate should have at least 10 years of experience in HV/MV projects, knowledge of risk management, and fluency in Italian and English.

You will be responsible for conducting reliability studies, risk analysis, and supporting clients with grid connection processes. The position comes with a competitive salary range of €46,000 to €54,000 gross per year.

Senior Expert – Data Centers

For one of our clients in Italy, Labora Partners is looking for a Senior Expert – Data Centers specialised in HV/MV electrical infrastructure and grid connections for large‑scale data centres, for a consultant/advisor role.

About our client

Our client is a leading international technical consulting and engineering company operating in the power and energy sector, supporting utilities, transmission and distribution system operators, generation companies, regulators and major electromechanical manufacturers throughout the full lifecycle of power infrastructure — from power system studies, design and owner’s engineering for HV assets, to third‑party inspection, testing and on‑site supervision. Working alongside leading grid operators and institutions, the organisation combines independent technical authority with deep field expertise, offering the successful candidate the opportunity to contribute to high‑profile data centre and substation projects within a multinational, multidisciplinary and highly technical environment.

Location

Milan, Italy (with availability for national and international travel)

Education

Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar (Master’s degree preferred).

Experience

Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in HV/MV projects for data centres and industrial plants. The candidate must have in‑depth knowledge of reliability analysis and risk management (HazID studies, HILP scenarios for electrical infrastructure, MTTR–MTTF assessments, architectural redundancy, Tier and DC standards); Italian grid codes (Terna, with particular focus on the connection process) and European regulations; substation design; and power quality (voltage, harmonics, flicker, RoCoF). Strong stakeholder coordination skills (Contractors, Terna, authorities) and excellent command of Italian and English are required.

Role Description

The Senior Expert shall act as consultant/advisor on the HV/MV electrical infrastructure and grid connection of large‑scale data centres. Responsibilities include:

• Reliability and availability studies of the data centres’ electrical power supply;
• Risk analysis and the development of mitigation plans;
• Supporting clients in managing the grid connection and commissioning process, as well as in the development and authorisation phases;
• Technical due diligence on power supply solutions and HV configurations;
• Regulatory compliance analysis;
• Supporting coordination with Terna and authorities for permits and approvals;
• Drafting technical documentation and reporting in English;
• Supporting the internal team with technical coordination, supervision and mentoring of junior profiles.

Desirable Qualifications

• Experience with TSO/DSO connection processes in international contexts;
• Experience in hyperscale projects;
• Knowledge of technical software (AutoCAD, PowerFactory, ETAP);
• Familiarity with data centre standards (EN 50600, Uptime Institute/Tier, TIA‑942);
• PMP or equivalent project management certifications.
