Human Technopole (HT) is an interdisciplinary life science research institute supported by the Italian Government, aiming to develop innovative strategies to improve human health. HT comprises five Centers: Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Genomics, Neurogenomics, and Health Data Science. These centers collaborate to promote interdisciplinary research and foster an open, collaborative environment to advance life sciences both nationally and internationally.

The Human Technopole Foundation seeks a highly motivated Senior Bioinformatician for Prof. Giuseppe Testa's Neurogenomics Research Centre. The lab emphasizes reproducibility and transparency following the FAIR principles, leveraging advanced High-Performance Computing infrastructure and close collaborations with computational and experimental biologists, as well as core facilities and support units like CEREBRA.

Research Focus: High-definition modeling of neurodevelopmental disorders through integration of brain organoid technologies, multi-omic, imaging, and functional assays. See related publications for context.

Your main tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Establishing and maintaining reproducible, well-documented bioinformatic pipelines for analyzing single-cell multi-omics datasets.
  • Supporting researchers with bioinformatic analyses and statistical advice.
  • Developing and maintaining computational analysis pipelines.
  • Implementing innovative analysis tools from the scientific community.
  • Curating and harmonizing internal and external datasets.
  • Contributing to data portal and visualization development.
  • Explaining statistical results to diverse collaborators.
  • Documenting software following best practices.

Requirements

Mandatory:

  • MSc in a quantitative field (e.g., bioinformatics, computer science, statistics, mathematics, physics, engineering).
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language: Python (preferred), R, Java, JavaScript, C++, C#, MATLAB.
  • Experience with code versioning systems (e.g., git, SVN) and container technologies (e.g., Docker, Singularity).
  • Experience working in Unix/Linux environments.
  • Experience with bioinformatics workflow systems (e.g., Nextflow, Snakemake, CWL).
  • Fluency in English.

Preferred:

  • PhD or extensive experience in data science or software engineering roles.
  • Experience analyzing single-cell omics datasets and interest in neurobiology.
  • Expertise in web frameworks for data visualization, dashboards, databases, and data management.

Organizational and social skills:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to structure workflows reproducibly.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Collaborative attitude and ability to work with diverse teams.
  • Ability to manage priorities independently in a fast-paced setting.
