Job summary

Leaf Space S.r.l. is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to own core ground-segment software for a satellite-based mesh network.

You will design and build data-handling services, implement protocol stacks, and develop scalable, cloud-based distributed systems with a focus on reliability and performance. The role requires hands-on expertise in systems design, network programming, and secure development practices, with strong collaboration across engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Strong software development skills in C/C++, Go, Python, or Rust.
• Solid Linux experience—development, networking, OS proximity.
• Hands-on cloud experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure) building and operating distributed services.
• Network programming experience—sockets, protocol design/implementation, TCP/UDP.
• Experience with networking protocols; space data systems is a plus.
• DTN, mesh networking or routing protocols experience is a plus.
• Experience contributing to system design.
• Awareness of secure software development practices (NIS2, ISO 27001).
• Fluent English (written and spoken).

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain core software components for the mesh network's ground segment and data-handling services.
• Implement and integrate protocols and services for space data systems across the spacecraft-ground link.
• Develop network software — protocol handling, routing, data transport for reliable, high-throughput communication.
