We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer for our CODE team - Challenges & Gamification Squad in Portugal!

CODE is an acronym for Consumer Digital Experience, which means we're responsible for the experience and services guiding people in their wellbeing journey. Our main goal in CODE is to make every company a wellness company. From providing access to Wellhub's benefits to leveraging our partner network, our focus is on end-user experience.

CODE teams develop and maintain Wellhub's app, frontend and backend services, and Design System, working closely with product, UX, and data teams to create an excellent platform experience.

The Challenges & Gamification Squad aims to make user engagement more fun through new products and integrations with health data platforms like AppleHealth and Google Health, facilitating access and sharing of health data across the ecosystem.

YOUR IMPACT

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be a passionate developer committed to high-quality, timely delivery. You will participate in and lead architectural decisions, suggest improvements, collaborate with product and business teams, and mentor less experienced developers.

You will be responsible for your decisions, owning critical features, reviewing pull requests, and actively shaping our architecture. You should be data-driven, innovative, and eager to learn and share knowledge to maximize impact.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you :

• Deliver high-quality work on schedule, perform code reviews, and develop reusable code.
• Lead architectural decisions, suggest improvements, and ensure design documentation is current.
• Collaborate with product teams and stakeholders to influence business outcomes.
• Ensure successful delivery and maintain the long-term health of our systems.
• Own critical features, track KPIs, and ensure high standards of code quality.
• Serve as a technical reference, promote best practices, and mentor team members.
• Participate in incident resolution and troubleshooting.
• Promote wellbeing and a supportive work environment, aligning with our mission to foster work-life balance and employee health.

Main requirements

We expect you to have the following qualifications :

• At least 5 years of experience in web development and a true team player mindset.
• Experience designing and developing complex modern web applications.
• Experience in developing RESTful services and collaborating with front-end teams.
• Proficiency in at least two programming languages such as Go, Scala, Kotlin, or Java.
• Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases like PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB, Redis.
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures and message brokers like Kafka, RabbitMQ, SNS.
• Experience with prototypes, MVP, A/B testing, and feature toggles.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and problem-solving.
• Experience with monitoring, observability, and KPIs.
• Familiarity with microservices, distributed systems, and AWS cloud architecture.
• Excellent communication skills in English and Portuguese.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Ability to work autonomously and in a team, with multi-tasking skills and adaptability.

Nice to have

• Experience with System Integrations.
• Experience with Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence).
