Job summary

MainStreaming Milano Bicocca is seeking a Backend Engineer to build, maintain and optimize data systems and pipelines that support the organization’s data flow needs within the Data Platform engineering team. You will collaborate with backend/frontend teams to deliver robust data solutions.

You’ll design backend services and APIs, ensure data quality, and contribute to tooling and governance while working with an international team that values craftsmanship and proactive learning.

Qualifications

• Solid knowledge of distributed systems and their design principles.
• Experience in API design and development.
• Strong object-oriented programming (OOP) skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft .NET and C#.
• Good command of SQL and relational databases.
• Solid understanding of data structures.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable data pipelines for batch and real-time processing (ETL/ELT).
• Translate existing data models into scalable and efficient implementations.
• Develop, test and optimize code for data ingestion, transformation and loading.
• Design and maintain backend services and APIs that expose data to internal and external consumers.
• Implement validation, monitoring and alerting to ensure data quality and integrity.
• Monitor and troubleshoot data workflows to guarantee system stability.
• Collaborate with Data Architects, Data Scientists, Analytics and backend/frontend teams.
• Ensure best practices through code reviews, testing and documentation.

For our brand-new office located in Milano Bicocca we are looking for a:

The backend engineer we’re looking for is responsible for building, maintaining, and optimizing data systems and pipelines that support the organization’s data flow needs.

Operating within the Data Platform engineering team, you will also collaborate closely with backend/frontend teams and other stakeholders to deliver robust and scalable data solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain scalable data pipelines for batch and real-time processing (ETL/ELT), from source systems to data lakes, warehouses and lakehouses
• Translate existing data models into scalable and efficient implementations
• Develop, test and optimize code for data ingestion, transformation and loading
• Design and maintain backend services and APIs that expose data to internal and external consumers (e.g. UIs, Grafana dashboards), ensuring stability and performance
• Implement validation, monitoring and alerting to ensure data quality and integrity
• Monitor and troubleshoot data workflows to guarantee system stability
• Contribute to the selection of tools and frameworks for data processing and orchestration
• Collaborate with Data Architects, Data Scientists, Analytics and backend/frontend teams to deliver reliable datasets
• Ensure best practices through code reviews, testing and documentation

Skills:

• Experience with Big Data tools
• Knowledge of ClickHouse

• Experience creating and managing containers (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and architectures
