A leading AI consultancy in Italy is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to design and build production-grade AI solutions. In this hands-on role, you will work with agentic AI systems and LLMs alongside a collaborative team of engineers. This position offers a hybrid working model, where the initial onboarding is on-site in Rome, Milan, or Naples, moving toward remote afterward. Ideal candidates should possess strong skills in Python and experience in AI consulting or tech environments.

We’re looking for a Senior AI Engineer to join a high-impact AI consultancy working on advanced, real-world projects around LLMs and multi-agent systems.

This is a very hands-on role, focused on designing and building production-grade AI solutions, not demos or PoCs.

What you’ll work on:

• Designing and implementing agentic AI systems (planners, tool use, memory, orchestration)
• Building RAG pipelines in production (vector DBs, chunking strategies, retrieval & ranking)
• Developing APIs and services in Python
• Working with LLMs (OpenAI / Azure OpenAI / Anthropic / open-source) in real products
• Collaborating with other engineers and mentoring on architecture & best practices

Setup:

• Freelance collaboration with long-term perspective
• Hybrid model: initial onboarding on-site, then gradually moving towards remote
• Possible locations: Rome / Milan / Naples

Nice to have:

• Experience in AI / tech consulting environments
