TGR Haas F1 Team, based in Maranello, Italy, seeks an Aerodynamics Designer Team Leader to drive surface geometry and CAD strategy for wind tunnel and full-size releases.

You will mentor junior designers, collaborate with aerodynamicists and model designers, ensure CAD standards, and support development during race seasons. Travel and flexible hours are part of this fast-paced role.

Competenze

General Summary

This role reports to the Aerodynamics Designer Team Leader or their designee and is based in Maranello, Italy. The role supports the delivery and contribution of departmental and organisational objectives. Responsible for supporting day‑to‑day operations within their area of responsibility, working collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to ensure high standards of service, compliance, and performance. Adherence to organisational policies and procedures, effective communication with line management, and a commitment to continuous improvement and inclusive ways of working is essential.

Key Responsibilities
Role specific responsibilities
  • Central to the design process, working closely with aerodynamicists, model designers, and full‑size car designers to produce high-quality, high‑performance surfaces.
  • Collaborate within the development teams to provide comprehensive support for the concept surfacing function.
  • Ensure adherence to standard design practices for surface models issued by the aerodynamics department.
  • Partner closely with aerodynamicists to grasp the definition and requirements of all new surfaces, including modelling and construction approaches.
  • Coordinate with Aerodynamicists and Model Designers to ensure the smooth execution of aerodynamic projects.
  • Supervise and mentor junior aero designer with their contribution to the team activities.
  • Develop high‑quality surface geometry for both CFD Wind Tunnel testing and full‑size releases.
  • Provide the design and development direction on all aspects of the company’s Wind Tunnel models.
  • Actively contribute to the upkeep of relevant surfacing documentation.
  • Support the aerodynamicist in the legality checks for the full‑size releases.
  • Direct or undertake CAD tools and macro Ensure all standards required for production.
  • Clear communication of task status. Develop workflow automation tools.

  • Ensure work meets expected service, quality, and compliance standards.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications & Experience
  • GCSE, High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Further education, including a university Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline desired.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role or motorsport environment (preferably Formula 1).
  • Exceptional creativity and a deep understanding of surfacing and parametric modelling techniques.
  • Experience in the management of complex CAD structures.
  • Thorough understanding of and experience with CAD, with expertise in CATIA/3DX.
  • Acknowledgment of surface quality, model layout and robustness.
  • Understanding of the kinematics problems related to suspension movements.

Travel Requirements

  • Trackside roles may involve standing for long periods, walking across paddocks, and working in noisy, crowded environments.
  • Factory roles may require manual handling of components, use of machinery, or working in temperature‑controlled areas.
  • Office‑based roles typically involve prolonged computer use and occasional movement between departments.
Sensory Demands
  • Exposure to high noise levels (e.g., engines, pit lane activity), bright lighting, and fast‑moving environments is common in race support roles.
  • This role is based in a shared workplace environment where exposure to common allergens (including food products, fragrances and cleaning materials) may occur. While we will always consider reasonable adjustments, we are unable to guarantee a completely allergen‑free environment.
Health & Safety Compliance
  • All roles require adherence to strict safety protocols, especially in technical and trackside environments.
  • Completion of all mandatory compliance training (including health and safety, data protection, and role‑specific regulatory training) is a condition of employment and must be maintained throughout tenure.
