Job Introduction

We’re looking for a Satellite and Ground Segment Engineer, to reinforce the team in our Italy office!

The position is framed within the Serco Copernicus Services, unit responsible for supporting all Copernicus Sentinels missions in erogating operations, maintenance and coordination services.
We are looking for a Junior Copernicus Ground Segment Engineer. You will be involved in activities required to ensure the proper orchestration of Operations and I&V activities across the services contributing to Copernicus Ground Segment operations and engineering.

Main Responsibilities

As Satellite and Ground Segment Engineer you will be responsible for:

Support the Operations Performance Monitoring of the ground segment data flow:

  • End-to-end monitoring, analysis, and reporting to ensure that CSC Services behaviour aligns with expected outcomes.
  • Monitoring the overall data flow to ensure completeness and timeliness for data acquisition, production, dissemination, and archival.
  • Identifying deviations from expected performance and reporting findings.

Support the Anomaly and Maintenance Management:

  • Processing and managing anomaly and maintenance reports.
  • Coordinating with involved entities and following up until resolution.
  • Using ticketing systems for issue management.
  • Support end-to-end system integration: integration of multiple systems and validation tests.
  • Identify and resolve integration issues: Monitor the integration process, identifying and addressing any issues that arise.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of the integration process, including workflows, tools, and techniques used.
  • Collaborate with technical teams: Work closely with development and operations teams to ensure smooth integration and timely validation
  • Reports Preparation: Preparing reports on a weekly and quarterly basis.
  • Meeting Attendance: Attending and organize meetings such as progress meetings, Anomaly Review Boards (ARB) and coordination boards, ensuring alignment with decision-making processes.
  • On-Call: Participating in on-call shifts during Extended Working Hours (EWH).

Successful Candidate

  • Attitude in perform routine tasks, like systems monitoring and reporting: Ability to track, analyze, and report systems performance trends.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and respond to complex mission data.
  • Experience with tools for issue and anomaly processing and tracking.
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Writing Technical Documentation, like operational procedures, anomaly reports, progress reports.
  • English Level B2 (Upper-Intermediate), written and spoken.

Knowledge and experience:

  • Knowledge of EO data ground segment. Experience working on aerospace projects, ideally involving Earth Observation (EO) systems or satellite missions.
  • Familiarity in monitoring and reporting mission performance trends, data analysis, and the ability to derive actionable insights from complex datasets and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity in incident and anomaly management processes and workflows within mission-critical environments.
  • Familiarity in I&V processes.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, IT, Computer Science, or a related field.

Other skills:

  • Grafana: Experience with Grafana for monitoring, including using dashboards and leveraging various features for performance monitoring.
  • Familiarity with OData, STAC APIs and with SQL databases.
  • Strong communication and mediation skills.
  • Familiarity with ITIL and Agile methodologies for service management and project execution.
