American Academy in Rome seeks an Arts Director to join its intellectual leadership in Rome, guiding Rome Prize Fellows across architecture, design, literature, and visual arts. The role involves shaping the Academy’s intellectual vision, mentoring Fellows, and fostering engagement with Rome’s vibrant arts community.

The position requires an advanced arts degree, a minimum of five years in a related institution, and fluency in Italian.

Competenze

Advanced degree in arts discipline with national or international standing.
Minimum five years of experience in an academic, cultural, or arts institution.
Fluency in Italian (spoken and written).
Proven ability to mentor artists and scholars across varying levels of career.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust within a diverse community.
Ability to represent an institution professionally to Fellows, staff, donors, and officials.
Strategic thinking and organizational capability with program management experience.
Willingness to travel between Rome and New York and work evenings/weekends.

Mansioni

Serve as a primary intellectual resource for Rome Prize Fellows across the Academy’s arts disciplines.
Design, organize, and lead site visits and longer trips in and around Rome and the Mediterranean.
Mentor Fellows and develop relationships with Italian artists, institutions, and organizations.
Contribute to programming and institutional vision in collaboration with leadership.
Support fundraising efforts as requested.
