The American Academy in Rome seeks a Director to lead daily intellectual and communal life on its campus. This distinguished artist or scholar will guide an intellectual team, shape programming, and embody the Academy’s mission in Rome and beyond.

They will work with senior colleagues to implement programs, manage budgets, and promote cross‑disciplinary collaboration while maintaining a welcoming, rigorous residential community for Fellows, Residents, and visiting scholars.

Competenze

• Graduate degree and outstanding professional achievement in Rome Prize Fellowship disciplines or related fields.
• Proven ability to build community, manage relationships, and represent an institution with discretion.
• Fluency in Italian; comfortable operating in Italian professional, cultural, and civic contexts.

Mansioni

• Lead intellectual life and programming for the Rome Prize Fellows and residents.
• Shape governance discussions and contribute to campus-wide planning as a Board member ex officio.
• Foster communal life, intellectual generosity, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
• Represent the Academy in Rome, host dignitaries, and manage external engagements.
• Collaborate with senior colleagues to implement programs and budget, while ensuring strong community life.
