Medical University of South Carolina invites nursing students to join as Nurse Externs for hands-on clinical experience under the supervision of registered nurses on the MedSurg floor.

The position is PRN/part-time with 8 scheduled hours weekly, and requires completion of at least the first semester of an ADN or BSN program, ongoing enrollment, and AHA BLS certification. You may gain cross-training as a Unit Secretary as needed.

Job Description

The Nurse Extern performs routine duties within the limits of training and certification in caring for the hospitalized patient. The Nurse Extern may be cross‑trained to operate as a Unit Secretary depending on the demands and needs of the unit in which they are assigned. The care is rendered under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Performs other duties related to the work described herein.

Additional Job Description

• Education: Completion of first semester of an accredited ADN or BSN program. Currently enrolled in an accredited ADN or BSN program. Has 12 months to pass NCLEX after graduating
• Experience: Completion of first semester of an accredited ADN or BSN program.
• Licenses/Certificates: AHA BLS Certification
