The Organization

The Global Forum on Agricultural Research and Innovation (GFAiR) is a voluntary multistakeholder network and movement for change, uniquely bringing together actors from 11 constituencies interested in transforming the AgriFood System. GFAiR comprises around 1,000 member networks and institutions working together through collective action and advocacy to shape the future of agriculture and food, contributing to sustainable development. Its members and partners come from around the world, representing diverse groups including small-scale producers and farmers, consumers and civil society organizations, women and youth organizations, private sector, public research systems, advisory services, education, funding partners, and UN organizations. GFAiR's reach is extended through these organizations and the millions they involve.

GFAiR mobilizes dialogue, facilitates Collective Actions (CAs), and other initiatives like the Global NARS Consortium (GNC), sharing a vision of making agrifood research and innovation more effective, responsive, and equitable to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. The GFAiR Secretariat helps identify and facilitate these CAs among partner institutions, which are agents of change. GFAiR aims to inspire and enable transformation and strengthening of agrifood research and innovation systems to be more inclusive, effective, impactful, and foster multistakeholder collaboration at various levels through its extensive networks.

About the position

On behalf of GFAiR, the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT seeks a qualified consultant to work with GFAiR partners to conceptualize and implement GFAiR's mega Collective Action—the Global NARS Consortium—based on GFAiR's Charter, the EC-funded project, and GFAiR's Partnership and Engagement Principles. Reporting to the GFAiR Team Leader, the incumbent will facilitate the establishment of the GFAiR-enabled multi-stakeholder mega CA, ensuring equitable participation from different regions. The consultant will coordinate and support partners in fundraising, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL), and outreach, including using GFAiR’s MEL system.

Responsibilities

1. Support the GFAiR Secretariat, governance bodies, and representatives in activities such as Steering Committees, Executive Committees, conferences, and workshops.
2. Enhance connections and value within relationships involving EC, NARS, Subregional Fora, Regional Fora, CGIAR/ABC, IFAD, FAO, and other key stakeholders.
3. Develop corporate documents such as PPPs, plans, concept notes, annual reports, and minutes.
4. Lead the development and establishment of the GNC, including related meetings.
5. Mobilize NARS and other stakeholders to support the GNC initiative.
6. Develop GNC principles/guidelines documents and support related meetings.
7. Assist in designing the GNC pilot with NARS.
8. Support the implementation of methodologies, tools, systems, and databases for planning, delivery, and monitoring of GFAiR programs, including MEL systems.
9. Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree, preferably supplemented by a master's in agriculture, economics, social sciences, development studies, international relations, regional studies, or related fields.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in agrifood systems transformation, international research, systems management, or facilitation.
• Experience with database management, reporting, and complex geographically dispersed systems within multicultural organizations.
• Understanding of systems transformation issues within agricultural research and development networks.
• Experience working in the Global South and/or in international organizations.
• Interest and understanding of leveraging information and AI for program efficiency in distributed organizations.
• Excellent drafting skills and proficiency in English; knowledge of additional languages is highly desirable.

Terms of employment

This is a remote, part-time (50%), 6-month consultancy, renewable based on needs. The total fee is USD 20,000, payable within 6 months of contract signing, in accordance with Alliance policies.
