Job Description

Primary duties for this position will be:

  1. The development of open-source tools and software for probabilistic seismic hazard and risk assessment, in collaboration with the IT team.
  2. Supporting the creation of national, regional, and global PSHA hazard models, working closely with scientists worldwide.
  3. Conducting active research into new theoretical concepts and computational techniques for probabilistic seismic hazard development and application.
  4. Training scientists and students in software use and seismic hazard analysis.

Requirements
  • Strong knowledge of computational programming for scientific applications, particularly in Python, with experience in scientific libraries such as numpy, scipy, pandas, matplotlib, numba, etc.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills.
  • Ability to collaborate openly and effectively with team members.
  • A PhD in a STEM discipline is appreciated but not required.
About the Company

The Global Earthquake Model (GEM) is a collaborative effort that integrates science and organizations to promote open tools, models, and datasets for seismic hazard and risk calculation. The GEM Hazard Team maintains earthquake databases and develops tools like the OpenQuake Engine for seismic hazard analysis, collaborating worldwide to advance the field.
