About the role
The Regional Affairs Lead is responsible for leading and coordinating market access activities at the regional level for UCB’s entire product portfolio. She/he is responsible to inspire and engage her/his team to secure their engagement and performance.
She/he has to take care of the entire product portfolio, and this includes listing products in Regional/Hospital Formularies, communicating the Value Proposition, collaborating with the Tender Office, and developing and executing strategies to ensure patient access and the sustainability of company products throughout their lifecycle.
Specifically, this role involves developing projects within regional ecosystems that foster strategic partnerships with all key stakeholders in major hospital and regional settings (KOLs, hospital pharmacists, medical directors, general managers, regional decision-makers, patients, academia). The aim is to overcome access barriers to UCB innovations—whether regulatory, organizational, or managerial.
You will work with
The role involves coordinating a team of Regional Affairs Managers (RAMs) who operate in the field, working in collaboration with all other local functions related to the Business Units. Additionally, the Regional Affairs Head oversees a head office team responsible for monitoring and analyzing regional healthcare policies, identifying strategic partnerships, and developing solutions within hospital and regional ecosystems.
The Regional Affairs Lead reports directly to the Director of Access, Sustainability, and Public Affairs of UCB’s Italian affiliate.
What you will do
· Lead, engage and coordinate the Regional Affairs Managers (RAMs) team and the head office team ensuring the regional access strategy aligns with company policies.
· Ensure that both teams (the RAM field team and the office one) work in team with each other and with their internal stakeholders building solid partnerships with them.
· Take care of the grow and development of each member of the team (the RAM field team and the office one) making sure that all upcoming needed competencies are developed on time with business needs and that are in line with each employee willingness.
· Manage institutional relations at the regional level, liaising with Regional Authorities, Local Health Units (ASLs), hospitals, and pharmaceutical services to facilitate access to medicines.
· Oversee the management of public tenders and contracts with public administrations, ensuring regulatory compliance and commercial competitiveness.
· Ensure the communication of the value proposition of portfolio innovations across the territory.
· Identify opportunities for partnerships and project development and empower the team to engage with the relevant internal stakeholders to make them happen.
· Develop strategic initiatives in collaboration with local stakeholders, supporting the implementation of innovative access models.
· Ensure proper execution of activities in synergy with the Tender & Contracting team.
· Collaborate with all roles within the Italian affiliate and with Global and EU functions.
Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience and skills
· Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Life Sciences, Health Economics, Public Health, Pharmacy, or related disciplines)
· Fluent in English, with strong written and spoken communication skills, enabling effective interaction with international stakeholders and contribution to global and cross-functional projects
· Over 5 years of consolidated experience in Regional Access and People Management, demonstrating the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and drive access strategies across diverse regional landscapes.
· In-depth knowledge of hospital and regional healthcare ecosystems, with a solid grasp of both technical dynamics (e.g., formulary processes, care pathways) and political-institutional frameworks that influence decision-making.
· Comprehensive understanding of regional access processes, including regulatory pathways, reimbursement mechanisms, and stakeholder engagement strategies aimed at optimizing patient access to innovative therapies.
· Previous experience in commercial roles and institutional relations (e.g., marketing, sales, public affairs) is a big plus
· Leadership and People Management: Ability to coordinate and motivate both the regional access team and the head office team.
· Problem-Solving and Strategic Thinking: Skilled in addressing regulatory and commercial challenges with innovative solutions.
· Networking and Institutional Relations: Capable of engaging with regional and local stakeholders to facilitate access to medicines.
· Adaptability and Flexibility: Effectively managing a constantly evolving regulatory and market environment.
· Analytical Skills: Able to interpret market data and regional policies (e.g., healthcare plans) to guide the affiliate’s strategic decisions.
