Summary

This position is located at the Fitness Centers of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department, NAS Sigonella. The primary purpose of this position is to promote fitness and educate patrons on proper equipment utilization and exercise programs.

Duties

1. Conduct Fitness Assessments, screening participants for medical risk factors prior to exercise via a comprehensive medical history and health habits questionnaire. Maintain current files on all patrons. Refer high-risk patrons to supervisor.
2. Perform personal training sessions. Instruct and demonstrate proper biomechanic techniques for resistance training and cardiovascular equipment. Explain kinesiology of each machine. Show patrons how to monitor heart rate during exercise. Emphasize warm-up, cool-down, and flexibility.
3. Issue workout cards and necessary paperwork related to assessments and sessions. Maintain records (membership cards, personal training, activity reports, client records, health risk forms).
4. Perform routine inspections and minor maintenance on the facility and equipment to ensure safety and proper operation. Keep the fitness center clean and orderly. Prepare for scheduled and special events. Complete shift duties, including opening and closing the facility.
5. Assist with fitness facility operations according to MWR regulations. Provide accurate information about fitness and sports programs. Deliver excellent customer service. Issue equipment, document transactions, conduct equipment inventories, and patron counts. File incident reports promptly.
6. May assist with special events or cover shifts at either fitness center.
7. Manage money from patrons, maintain a change fund, and complete the Daily Activity Report at shift end.
8. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment

• Satisfactory completion of a background investigation (NACI).
• Pass a pre-employment physical examination.
• Work schedule may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and split days off.
• Obtain Emergency First Responder or CPR/First Aid/AED certification, Customer Service Training, and MWR Food and Beverage Alcohol Safety Certification within 60 days.
• Male candidates born after December 31, 1959, must certify registration with the Selective Service System.
• Possess No-Fee government passport, Italian mission visa, Sponsor's Orders, and Sojourner's permit or application.

Qualifications

Qualification Requirements: Six months of general experience and six months of specialized experience in Fitness at the NF-01 level or equivalent, OR two years of education above high school including at least 12 semester hours in related courses.

General experience: Any work demonstrating ability to perform the position's duties.

Specialized experience: Experience at the NF-01 level or equivalent, related to this position.

Evaluation will consider knowledge, skills, and abilities including knowledge of fitness activities, exercise science, cardiovascular risk factors, instruction skills, record-keeping, interpersonal skills, and emergency handling.

Education
