Hitachi Energy’s Grid Automation division is seeking a skilled modeller for power electronics and control systems. The role focuses on modelling Hitachi Energy PCS portfolio, delivering validated models, and integrating into automation logics and simulation tools.

You will work across Genova/Milan (Italy) and Seville/Madrid (Spain), collaborating with global stakeholders. The candidate will develop, test and document models, support model delivery, and contribute to grid impact studies.

Competenze

• Minimum 5 years of modelling Power Systems and Power Electronics.
• Proficient in Matlab/Simulink, DIgSILENT Power Factory, PSCAD, PSS/E.
• Experience with Grid Impact Studies is a plus.
• Willing to travel globally (10-20%).

The opportunity

You shall be working in the research and development department of the global product group PCS (Power Conversion Systems within the Hitachi Energy’s Grid Automation Business Unit). The R&D team is responsible for the power electronics converters development & control and automation logics relevant to Energy Storage, Photovoltaics, Hybrid solutions.

The proposed role is available in the Hitachi Energy Grid Automation offices in Genova / Milan, Italy, and in Seville / Madrid in Spain.

Being part of a global team, you shall interact with the different stakeholders of the organization and Operational units worldwide.

Your focus shall be on the modelling of Hitachi Energy PCS product portfolio (power electronics converters and power plant controller), with focus on development, integration and validation of the models into automation control logics, modelling, and simulation tools within different simulation environments.

How you'll make an impact:

• You shall leverage your extensive knowledge of modelling applied to Power Systems, Power Electronics and digital control techniques being responsible for the product development process of validated models representative of the PCS product portfolio.
• Working with the R&D senior management you shall participate in the definition and implementation the product modelling roadmap for PCS team, being supporting the model delivery and rollout of the models including in the deliver reduced grid impact studies for execution projects.
• As part of the R&D team you will have the opportunity to interact with Product Management, external consultants, and internal customers globally located.
• Responsible for the simulation models development, testing and validation.
• Responsible for documentation generation, version tracking and quality checks.
• Provide training and support of PCS colleagues, customers, and consultants.

Your background:

• Master degree, preferred in either Electrical or Electronic Engineering, with focus on Power System stability and Power Electronics domain. A PhD in the area of renewable energy grid integration with focus on modelling & control aspects would be a plus.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in modelling and studying Power Systems and Power Electronics, using state of the art tools (Matlab Simulink, DIgSILENT Power Factory, PSCAD, PSS/E).
• Excellent knowledge of Power System, Power Electronics and Control system modelling tools (Matlab Simulink, DIgSILENT Power Factory, PSCAD, PSS/E).
• Experience in executing Grid Impact Studies is a plus.
• Knowledge of Python, PyTest and simulation automation techniques is a plus.Solid presentation skills and fluency in English, both written and spoken.
• High awareness for quality, process and tool in related area.
• Self-motivated, independent, organized and structured way of working.
• Able to operate in a highly motivated team environment.
• Availability to travel globally (10 - 20% of the time)
