Position Details

Salary Range: $50,000-$80,000 annually. This is a full-time exempt position.

This is an on-site, full-time position in Rome, NY, at AFRL and the Innovare Advancement Center at the Rome Griffiss Institute campus. Candidates must be located or willing to relocate within a commutable distance to Rome, NY.

Responsibilities and Duties

This project supports research by the Technergetics Quantum Team, including developing heterogeneous quantum networks, utilizing quantum technologies for applications like signal processing and detection, improving quantum systems with technologies like integrated photonics, and using quantum algorithms for data analysis and planning. The ideal candidate will:

  • Maintain and operate advanced laboratory equipment: stabilized laser systems, vacuum systems, and cryogenic equipment including dilution refrigerators
  • Perform experiments measuring RF signatures of superconducting devices, trapping and manipulating matter-based qubits, characterizing optical systems including nonlinear frequency conversion, imaging, and photonic integrated circuits
  • Conduct team-based research, communicate scientific findings through papers and presentations, develop innovative concepts for quantum communication and networking, and keep detailed technical notes
  • Support daily operations of laboratory equipment and plan/execute experiments related to quantum networking, computing, and related technologies
  • Assist in developing quantum networks for secure communication and sensing

Education and Certifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in physics, applied physics, optics, microsystems engineering, or a closely related technical field.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in physics, applied physics, optics, microsystems engineering, or related field with specialization in quantum and/or integrated technology
  • Experience in experimental physics, including atomic, optical, and molecular physics, quantum technology, or solid-state physics
  • Ability to clearly communicate advanced technical concepts to diverse scientific and engineering teams
  • Maintain organized and detailed laboratory notes
  • Work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in physics, applied physics, optics, microsystems engineering, or related field with specialization in quantum and/or integrated technology
  • Experience with programming (e.g., Python) for data analysis and hardware control
  • Knowledge of fabrication and characterization techniques for quantum dots, centers, integrated photonic circuits, superconducting circuits, trapped ions, and Rydberg atoms
  • Experience aligning and maintaining complex optical setups for qubit control and readout, nonlinear frequency conversion, and optical imaging
  • Experience operating RF and electronic equipment, cryogenic systems, and vacuum systems
  • Simulation and design of RF and photonic circuits using modeling software (e.g., COMSOL, Ansys Lumerical, K-Layout) and optical pulse propagation methods

Clearance:

Applicants will undergo a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for at minimum, Secret access to classified information.

Travel:

This position is not expected to require travel.
