A leading construction consultancy in Milan is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to manage costs for a large-scale data centre project. Responsibilities include preparing cost reports, supporting procurement, and liaising with project managers. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years' experience in construction and strong analytical skills. Fluency in English is required, with Italian being an advantage.

Quantity Surveyor – Data Centre Construction

Milan, Italy |

12-month contract | Start : November 2025

Project overview :

We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor (QS) to join the commercial team on a large-scale hyperscale data centre development located near Milan. The project is in the early construction phase, and the role will focus on cost management, subcontractor coordination, and commercial reporting to support successful delivery.

Key responsibilities :

  • Manage and monitor project costs, budgets, and cash flow throughout all phases of construction. - Prepare, review, and update monthly cost reports and forecasts. - Support the procurement process, including preparation of tender documentation, analysis of subcontractor quotations, and negotiation of commercial terms. - Review and assess subcontractor applications for payment and recommend approvals. - Manage and value variations and change orders, ensuring timely submission to the client. - Track and report on risk allowances and potential cost impacts. - Assist in the preparation of final accounts and settlement of subcontractor claims. - Liaise closely with the project manager, design team, and client representatives to resolve commercial issues. - Maintain accurate and comprehensive commercial records in line with project procedures and client requirements.

Profile :

  • Degree-qualified Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Manager, or equivalent. - Minimum 5 years’ experience on large-scale construction projects, ideally including data centres, high-tech industrial, or critical infrastructure. - Strong understanding of cost management, contract administration, and commercial reporting. - Familiarity with standard forms of contract (FIDIC, NEC, or local equivalents). - Excellent analytical and negotiation skills. - Fluent in English; Italian language skills would be a significant advantage. - Proficiency with MS Excel; knowledge of cost management software tools preferred.

    Location : Milan area, Italy (site-based, with some flexibility)
