For one of our key clients in Tuscany, Italy, we are seeking local QHSE Engineers for a long-term 3-year freelance contract, 8 hours a day and 5 days a week, full-time onsite.

Position: QHSE Engineer – Infrastructure/Civil Projects

Location: Livorno, Italy (PIATTAFORMA EUROPA Project)

As a QHSE Engineer, you will be actively involved in major infrastructure and civil engineering works. You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day coordination and supervision of all QHSE-related activities, ensuring regulatory compliance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement on-site.

A joint venture of local and international partners is executing a major port expansion project in Livorno, Italy, which includes:

  • Dredging of 14.5 million m³ to deepen access channels to -17m and basins to -16m
  • Construction of two new breakwaters and relocation of the existing Meloria breakwater
  • Development of 3 km of new quay walls and two state-of-the-art port terminals
  • Land reclamation using dredged material to add 2 million m² to the port area
  • Enhanced intermodal connectivity integrating rail and road links to northern and central Italy

This project aims to double cargo capacity and position Livorno as a key logistics hub in the Mediterranean.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise teams on QHSE matters; conduct inductions, toolbox talks, and training sessions
  • Perform audits and inspections to assess the effectiveness of QHSE systems
  • Recommend and track improvements; ensure timely follow-up and implementation
  • Conduct internal risk assessments and support the rollout of mitigation measures
  • Maintain and enhance the existing QHSE management system
  • Report critical QHSE issues and initiatives to the central QHSE department
  • Support incident investigations by collecting documentation and tracking corrective actions and their effectiveness
  • Stay updated on relevant national labour legislation and codes of practice

Technical Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in a similar role
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong knowledge of VCA standards
  • In-depth understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001
