A leading renewable energy startup seeks a Project Director to spearhead utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects in Italy. This key position will involve managing project delivery, compliance, and stakeholder relationships while leading growth opportunities across the Italian market. We’re seeking a Project Director to lead the end-to-end development of utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects in Italy. From managing DSA partnerships and progressing projects to RTB and COD, to identifying new opportunities and ensuring regulatory compliance, the right candidate will be key to establishing and expanding my client’s presence in the Italian (and, eventually broader global) market.
This is a unique opportunity to join as the first hire on the ground in Italy for a well-backed renewable energy startup with strong financial support from leading industry players and an already established project pipeline. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced setting and is ready to take ownership of large-scale project delivery.
Oversee the development of PV and BESS projects through RTB and into construction, ensuring key milestones are delivered on time and on budget.
Grow the project pipeline by identifying and securing new development opportunities across Italy.
Manage relationships with DSA partners and ensure they meet obligations such as permitting, land agreements, and grid access.
Coordinate handover of projects from development to construction, working with EPCs, engineers, and grid operators.
Serve as the main point of contact for Italian partners, local authorities, and regulatory bodies.
Ensure compliance with relevant Italian regulations, environmental standards, and health and safety protocols.
Proactively manage risks around permitting, grid availability, or third-party performance.
Evaluate new DSA opportunities, especially late-stage projects.
Support senior leadership in assessing project economics for asset retention or sale.
Monitor and report on project budgets, timelines, and KPIs.
Prepare regular project updates for internal stakeholders and investors.
8+ years in renewable energy project management, including 5+ years in Italian PV and / or BESS development.
Proven experience delivering projects through RTB and COD, including grid connection processes.
Solid understanding of EPC contracts, DSAs, and regulatory frameworks in Italy.
Willingness to travel frequently across Southern Italy and to project locations.
Established network within the Italian renewable energy market (developers, DSAs, EPCs, grid operators).
Experience in IPP operations and / or project transactions (e.g., Proficiency in project management tools and reporting software.
Fluency in Italian and English (spoken and written).
