Product & Manufacturing Engineer for Powered Exoskeletons

Product & Manufacturing Engineer for Powered Exoskeletons

Full-time | Milan | Starting as soon as possible

Join a deep-tech startup shaping the future of movement and wellbeing at work — and help us scale our first product, now live with major customers.

About Proteso

At Proteso, we build intelligent exoskeletons to help people move freely, safely, and comfortably in physically demanding jobs.

Born as a spin-off of the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) and in collaboration with the Italian Workers' Compensation Authority (INAIL), we're now entering a rapid growth phase — backed by institutional investors, with our first customers live at a major airport and new deployments underway.

We’re a small, focused team of engineers with a deep understanding of human movement — and a shared mission to bring wearable technology for wellbeing into the real world, one lift at a time.

What We Offer

We're offering a full-time, permanent position for a Product & Manufacturing Engineer , with a competitive compensation package based on experience. This includes a performance-based bonus and access to our employee stock option plan in a promising and rapidly growing company.

You’ll take ownership of both the technical evolution of our product and the processes that bring it to life in the real world. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys building, testing, iterating — and wants to shape how a cutting-edge product is built, used, and loved.

These are the areas we have in mind :

  • Improve our current exoskeleton design with a focus on Design for Manufacturing (DfM)
  • Develop and refine the assembly and testing process, including tooling, benches, and quality control
  • Contribute directly to building and testing upcoming production batches
  • Create and maintain clear documentation for assembly, maintenance, and service
  • Support future product evolutions with prototypes and mechanical design input
  • Collaborate with the CEO and customer success engineer to feed field feedback into product strategy
  • Work closely with our product development team (software and electronics) to implement improvements and ensure robustness

If you’re not sure you tick every box — but you’re curious and feel a spark — we’d still love to hear from you.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re not looking for a perfect resume. We’re looking for someone who’s smart, practical, and ready to build .

While we value international backgrounds and diverse perspectives, fluency in Italian will be very helpful in this role, given the nature of field work and supplier coordination.

You might be a good fit if you :

  • Have already a few years of experience in mechanical or mechatronic engineering
  • Have worked on prototypes or low-volume products, ideally in wearables, robotics, or machinery
  • Understand the basics of production processes and testing tools
  • Are fluent in CAD and feel at ease moving between design and reality
  • Write clearly and enjoy creating understandable documentation
  • Like to take initiative, solve problems, and work across disciplines

Bonus points if you’ve worked on exoskeletons, medical devices, or ergonomic equipment — but we value attitude and ability to learn even more.

Success in this role means :

  • We can more quickly and confidently ship products to customers
  • Users are happier using MOVI and experience fewer or no interruptions due to technical issues
  • The product becomes easier to build, maintain, and improve
  • You’re proud of what you’ve built — because MOVI is making a real impact on workers’ wellbeing, helping them move with less fatigue and more ease, day in and day out
  • Our workspace will be in Milan (final location to be confirmed soon)
  • This is mainly an onsite role, but we value flexibility and work by objectives — smart working is definitely part of the mix
  • Occasional field visits to customers or suppliers may be part of the job
  • We don’t prioritize rigid hierarchies — or rigid time schedules

We care about clarity, autonomy, and shared purpose. You’ll work closely with the CEO and the engineering team, and be empowered to shape how things are done.

Tools & Resources

  • Company laptop and phone
  • Access to shared prototyping and testing equipment

Why Join Now

This is a rare moment : we’ve just gone live with our first commercial units, we’re building our next batch, and every improvement you make will shape the path ahead.

You’ll have a front-row seat to the evolution of an entirely new product category — and the chance to become a key contributor at a time when every voice matters.

We’re building something meaningful, and we want you to be proud of what we achieve together.

How to Apply

If this sounds exciting, reach out to us at or message us on LinkedIn, and mention you are interested in this position!
