STMicroelectronics in Italy's Lombardy region seeks a highly qualified engineer for semiconductor manufacturing focused on high-precision tooling and process control.

You will ensure tool uptime, improve process robustness, and lead equipment qualification and training, working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic, high-volume environment. A scientific degree and knowledge of plasma/ vacuum physics are required, with strong English proficiency.

Competenze

  • PhD or MSc in physics, materials science, chemistry, or engineering.
  • Experience with physical/chemical process characterization.
  • Knowledge of plasma and vacuum physics.
  • Good command of English.
  • Strong problem solving and teamwork.

Mansioni

  • Guarantee tool uptime and performance aligned to targets.
  • Ensure process robustness and stability.
  • Define and manage equipment control charts.
  • Definition, management and training for OCAP.
  • Management of hold lots, tool alarms and FDC.
  • New tool selection and equipment procurement specification definition.
  • Improve tool and process performance (COO, defectivity, OEE).
  • Develop new processes per device/pro.dev group requirements.

YOUR ROLE

Semiconductor manufacturing is a core part of microchip production and includes a range of advanced process technologies used to build highly precise electronic devices. These processes may cover patterning, material removal, deposition, surface treatment, and doping, depending on the specific production step. Technologies such as lithography, wet etching, dry etching, deposition, and ion implantation play a critical role in defining fine structures, controlling device performance, and ensuring process consistency. These activities require strong technical discipline, attention to detail, and the ability to work within a high-volume, high-precision manufacturing environment.

The main objectives of the position are:

  • Guarantee tool uptime and tool performance aligned to targets
  • Ensure process robustness and stability
  • Definition and management of equipment control chart
  • Definition, management and training for OCAP
  • Management of hold lots, tool alarms and FDC
  • New tool selection, Equipment Procurement Specification definition and tool start-up
  • Improve tool and process performances in term of COO, defectivity, OEE, MTBC,...
  • Develop new processes according to device/proc.dev group requirements
YOUR SKILLS & EXPERIENCES
  • Scientific degree or Ph.D. in Physics, Material Science, Chemistry, Engineering or similar
  • The ideal candidate should have competencies on either the chemical or the physical aspects of the process and on physical characterization techniques:
    • Plasma physics, vacuum physics
    • Chemical kinetics, material science
  • English Knowledge
  • Scientific approach
  • Strong problem solving ability
  • Flexibility in priorities management
  • Team work ability
  • Statistical skills

The expected salary range for this position is €38,000 – €45,000 gross annual salary (RAL), plus variable pay relevant for the role.

In accordance with the EU Pay Transparency Directive and applicable Italian legislation, this compensation range has been determined based on objective, gender-neutral criteria, including job responsibilities, required skills, relevant experience, qualifications and market benchmarks. Placement within the range will depend on the candidate’s profile and demonstrated competencies. The final offer will be made in compliance with the applicable National Collective Bargaining Agreement (CCNL), where relevant, and our internal compensation policies.
