We are looking for a passionate and curious Process Development Scientist to join our Drug Substance Development team.

The ideal candidate will participate in the development of the manufacturing process for the synthesis of New Chemical Entities (NCEs).

The job activity will mainly focus on the development of crystallization processes, solid-state characterization of the produced materials, and process safety assessments.

Main Responsibilities

The candidate will be part of a team ensuring the solid-state consistency of Chiesi NCEs and the safety of related processes, collaborating with Process Development, Analytical Development, and QC groups. Main responsibilities include:

• Participating in process development for NCE synthesis, focusing on active ingredient isolation.
• Planning and executing Process Risk assessments and experimental trials.
• Designing, performing, and monitoring investigations on solid-state properties and process safety.
• Analyzing data using statistical tools and elaborating experimental results.
• Exploring modelling tools for process scale-up.
• Producing development reports and technical transfer packages.
• Managing laboratory equipment and conditions.
• Supporting small-scale productions for technological and toxicological studies.
• Assisting in process transfer to GMP units or CDMOs.
• Providing lifecycle management and troubleshooting support for industrialized products.

Experience Required

Academic or industrial experience in crystallization process development.

Education

Degree or PhD in Chemistry or related fields, with understanding of thermodynamics, organic reactions, and industrial processes.

Languages

Technical Skills

• Knowledge of pharmaceutical solid polymorphism principles
• Experience with analytical techniques (XRPD, DSC, PSD, DVS, BET, microscopy)
