Job Description:

At ERM, we support our Private Equity clients in decarbonizing their portfolios to create value and transition to a low-carbon economy. Our Decarbonization & Energy Transition Investing Team is experiencing significant growth, servicing private equity and infrastructure investors. Consultants work on strategic and operational decarbonization projects at investor and portfolio company levels.

We seek a Principal Consultant to develop 'Investment Grade' decarbonization plans that align with client and investor goals and can be rapidly implemented.

The Role:

The Principal Consultant will leverage existing client relationships and develop new ones within the private markets investor space. Internally, you will lead and motivate staff, contributing to ERM’s decarbonization strategy development and project delivery.

Responsibilities:

• Develop strategies to pursue new business and drive revenue growth.
• Lead decarbonization project origination and delivery, collaborating with ESG, climate, investment, and operational teams.
• Design and implement decarbonization plans for investments, aligning with broader ESG and energy transition goals.
• Manage multidisciplinary teams across ERM’s expertise areas.
• Provide guidance on translating decarbonization initiatives into business value.
• Lead due diligence projects focused on ESG and low-carbon economy drivers, with recommendations for post-investment decarbonization.

About You:

You will bring:

• Fluency in English and Italian.
• Experience in creating investment-grade decarbonization plans supported by detailed ROI and MACC analysis.
• Deep understanding of operational and strategic decarbonization beyond energy efficiency, including business value creation.
• Experience managing decarbonization programs within private equity and infrastructure contexts.
• Knowledge of energy efficiency, renewable procurement, low-carbon solutions, and sustainable value chains.
• Understanding of private equity and infrastructure investor operations.
• Experience engaging with C-suite and guiding senior management on decarbonization strategies and targets.
• Knowledge of energy transition investing, SBTi, TCFD, LEED, BREEAM, and impact management standards.
• Consulting background preferred but not required.
