Cubico Sustainable Investments develops, builds, and operates a diverse portfolio of renewable energy assets globally. In Italy, Cubico is developing a rapidly maturing pipeline of wind, solar photovoltaic (including agriPV), and BESS projects.

The Pre-Construction / Construction Manager will join at a key moment in the evolution of Cubico's Italian business and play a crucial role in the delivery of projects from late-stage development through to COD.

The role initially focuses on being an influential member of a core delivery team, including development, legal, and commercial representatives, to drive projects to NTP, before taking on full construction management and project delivery responsibilities. The position reports to the Italy Country Manager and has a dotted line to the Global Head of Construction.

The ideal candidate will be open and outward-looking, self-motivated, with well-rounded interpersonal skills, experienced in high-performing, flexible teams, and capable of delivering under tight deadlines and complex negotiations.

An engineering or technical background is required, along with strong project management and negotiation skills, and the ability to understand the commercial drivers of actions.

Location: Rome or Milan offices (Italy).

Key Responsibilities
Pre-Construction Phase
  • Manage the entire preconstruction phase from a technical perspective, from late-stage development to notice to proceed, coordinating input from local and central teams.
  • Act as a key member of a multidisciplinary project delivery team to commercialize projects and prepare them for successful construction, ensuring delivery on time, quality, and budget, with high HSE standards.
  • Lead tendering and support negotiation of EPC, BOP, Owners Engineer, and equipment supply contracts, working closely with procurement, technical, and commercial teams.
  • Support the definition and optimization of project information, including schedule, CAPEX, OPEX, and technical assumptions.
  • Identify project risks and opportunities proactively, with action plans to mitigate or realize them.
  • Collaborate with technical and engineering teams to ensure optimal solutions regarding technology, design, site studies, etc.
  • Work with the development team to derisk and advance grid connection works and late development activities.
  • Ensure governance processes are followed and maintain strong project documentation.
  • Evaluate new project opportunities in collaboration with the local development team.
  • Plan the transition into construction, ensuring a comprehensive handover and lessons learned.
  • Support ongoing resourcing plans to expand the Italian delivery team.
Construction Phase
  • Lead and supervise construction activities from remaining pre-construction to operations transition.
  • Lead by example on safety and act as a role model.
  • Ensure contractors have adequate project controls and maintain overall project controls.
  • Work closely with contractors and stakeholders, building strong relationships and monitoring performance.
  • Manage the implementation and supervision plan, finalizing the Project Execution Plan and controls.
  • Monitor grid connection progress and support the Grid Operator management.
  • Manage contracts and change control processes.
  • Lead a high-performing project team, including owners engineer and support functions.
  • Manage interfaces between contractors and stakeholders to minimize risks.
  • Ensure governance processes are followed and maintain documentation.
  • Chair monthly Steering Committees and prepare reports.
  • Plan the transition into operations with Asset Management for a comprehensive handover.
