Job Description

This position is a full-time 40 hours per week position.

The scheduled hours are Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm (No Weekends).

Starting pay is $18.24 per hour, paid weekly on Fridays.

Job Description: The planning tech will provide technical support to the Planning Division. The employee assists Planners in responding to public information/permit inquiries, the preparation of land use policies, the processing of specific development proposals, and periodic updating of City records and maps. Work is primarily performed in an office. Some management of minor planning cases and assurance of zoning code compliance is required.

Job Duties:

  • Processes minor land use permit applications, including written reports, and business license applications.
  • Assist planners with occupancy field inspections.
  • Provides information to the public, in person or in writing or via telephone, regarding City land use regulations and policies. Provides back-up assistance, as needed, with the Permit Counter operations.
  • Assist planners in the review of development permit applications, including associated notice and documentation requirements.
  • Assists with the preparation of revisions to the Zoning Code, Comprehensive Plan and other regulatory and policy documents, including research, collection of data, mapping/graphics and noticing requirements.
  • Coordinates, updates and maintains maps and other records of development activity and public information.
  • Provides back-up assistance, as assigned, to the Code Compliance function.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of work.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive and confidential materials.
  • Maintains regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
  • Performs other administrative duties as assigned by planning or zoning departments.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Professional collecting, organizing, evaluating, and reporting planning data in conjunction with and for other Planning staff members.
  • Processes land use petitions and site development plans and distributes to appropriate divisions for review; processes carnival petitions.
  • Processes the transmittal and adoption of Growth Management Plan amendments, processes commercial certificates of Adequacy.
  • Research special projects required by Planning staff or management in conjunction with petitions, special projects, Commissioner requests, and public requests.
  • Maintains zoning atlas maps; maintains divisional files.
  • Prepares and computes monthly activity measures reports, correspondence, and a variety of divisional records.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Two years of training in planning or technology related to planning
    -OR-
  • Two years of college level courses in planning or a related field;
    -OR- Environmental Science Degree from accredited college or university.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that indicates the ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position listed above.
  • Possession of and maintain throughout employment a valid State driver's license.

Qualifications:

  • Geographic Information System (GIS) experience and/or certification.
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite or Microsoft Office Suite and GIS, mapping software.
