A leading engineering firm is seeking a Piping Material Engineer for their Italy office. The role focuses on developing piping specifications for pharmaceutical projects and requires strong organizational and communication skills. Candidates must hold a Mechanical Engineering Degree and be proficient in English and Italian. Your impact

Within our Piping Department in the Italy office, we are looking for a Piping Material Engineer. Main responsibilities include:

  • Develop / check Piping Material Specs, Valve Data Sheets, Piping SP list, Piping SP items (for chemical and pharmaceutical projects, both for hygienic and non-hygienic services);
  • Create Enquiry Requisitions, conduct Technical Bid Evaluations and assemble Technical Requirements for Purchase Order Valve Packages;
  • Prepare work instructions/procedures/guidelines;
  • Check and perform code calculations according to EN 13480-3 and ASME B31.3;
  • Select materials and piping components and develop related data sheets according to project requirements;
  • Provide assistance to BIM engineers with input sheets for the 3D Model catalogue creation and update;
  • Coordinate the production of all deliverables in accordance with the Project schedule;
  • Support piping designers on developing Material Take Off extracted from 3D models;
  • Create Piping Scope of Work descriptions for tenders;
  • Prepare bid packages and carry out technical bid tabulations/bid analysis of offers received from contractors/vendors;
  • Capacity of working collaboratively with designers, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure proper integration with other disciplines and the successful completion of projects;
  • Perform follow-up activities, comment, and approve documentation received from contractors;
  • Represent the project team/group in internal and external meetings, when needed.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent experience is required;
  • Knowledge of main international piping codes relevant to the pharmaceutical market;
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple activities, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines always respecting project requirements;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey design ideas and collaborate with team members and clients, internal and external;
  • Ability to think outside the box to add value and generate optimization ideas;
  • Good presentation skills and troubleshooting approach guided by logical reasoning;
  • Willingness to travel for short periods;
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and very good knowledge of Italian (at least B2).

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Experience in piping systems for industrial plants, preferably in chemical, biotech, and pharmaceutical industry;
  • Knowledge of ISO Quality Management procedures;
  • Willingness to update and improve your technical knowledge of international industrial norms, design standards, European Directives (PED, ATEX, Machinery), with a proactive approach for continuous learning;
  • Experience in specifying static and rotating equipment, pressure vessels, machinery (pumps, agitators, compressors), “package” equipment, etc. is a plus.
