Descrizione del lavoro

OptoMechanical Engineer – Space Industry

A leading innovator in optical and quantum technologies is seeking an experienced OptoMechanical Engineer to join their team in Italy. Specializing in the design and development of advanced optical systems for both ground and space applications, this company offers a dynamic environment where engineers work across the full lifecycle of cutting-edge projects.

The Role

As an OptoMechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, development, and integration of high-precision optical and mechanical systems. From initial concept through to manufacturing, testing, and structural analysis, you will be involved in every stage of development. This position requires a hands-on approach, working closely with optical, electronic, and AIT engineers to ensure seamless integration of complex systems.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design and develop mechanical components for optical systems
  2. Prepare manufacturing drawings, bill of materials, and integration procedures
  3. Conduct structural and thermal analysis (static and dynamic)
  4. Oversee the manufacturing process and liaise with suppliers
  5. Participate in structural and thermal testing, ensuring system performance
  6. Prepare high-quality documentation, including design reports, analysis reports, and test documentation
  7. Coordinate and participate in technical meetings with customers and internal teams
About You

The ideal candidate is an experienced mechanical engineer with a background in space or defense projects, who thrives in a hands-on, multi-disciplinary environment. You should be comfortable working in a smaller, agile company where engineers contribute across multiple aspects of a project, rather than being confined to a single function.

Requirements
  1. Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent)
  2. 5+ years of experience in space or defense projects
  3. Strong proficiency in 3D CAD design (SolidWorks preferred)
  4. Knowledge of engineering drawing standards and manufacturing processes
  5. Experience with FEA tools such as Femap & Nastran (preferred) or Ansys
  6. Fluency in Italian (required for interviews)
  7. Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude
  8. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
Preferred Skills
  1. Experience in opto-mechanics and precision mechanisms
  2. Knowledge of thermal analysis
  3. Familiarity with metallic and composite materials
The Offer
  1. Permanent position based in Vicenza, Italy
  2. Flexible working arrangements (minimum three days onsite per week)
  3. Collaborative and hands-on work environment
  4. Opportunity to work on cutting-edge optical systems with real-world space applications

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working across the full product lifecycle, from design to manufacturing and testing. Candidates from larger corporations who prefer highly specialized roles may find this environment too broad, but for those looking to be deeply involved in multiple aspects of engineering, this is a unique opportunity.

If you have the experience and passion for opto-mechanical engineering and are committed to relocating to Italy, we would love to hear from you.
