About the Role

The Natural Resources Manager provides the leadership that protects Tl’azt’en lands, waters, and wildlife while advancing sustainable opportunities for the Nation. By guiding stewardship, consultation, research, and project development with integrity and cultural grounding, this role ensures that natural resource decisions strengthen Rights & Title, support community priorities, and create long-term benefits for future generations.

Key Responsibilities

The Natural Resources Manager provides strategic leadership that protects Tl’azt’en Nation’s lands, waters, wildlife, and cultural values while advancing responsible development opportunities. By coordinating stewardship, research, consultation, and departmental operations, this role strengthens Rights & Title, supports informed decision-making, and ensures that natural resource initiatives uphold the Nation’s long-term interests and sustainability.

• Leads strategic and operational planning by identifying priority natural resource initiatives, directing research, and ensuring progress is monitored and reported to strengthen long-term stewardship and decision‑making.
• Oversees departmental budgeting, funding agreements, and financial reporting to ensure accurate, responsible, and compliant management of all natural resource finances.
• Directs and evaluates all lands and natural resource programs—including GIS, assessments, reporting, and stewardship guidance—to protect Rights & Title and uphold responsible resource management across Tl’azt’en territory.
• Builds strong relationships with community members, partners, and external bodies through engagement, consultation, and transparent communication that reflects community priorities and protects culturally significant areas.
• Develops and enforces strategies, policies, and controls that ensure all natural resource activities comply with relevant legislation, treaties, privacy, and security standards.
• Leads, mentors, and supports staff to ensure a safe, skilled, and productive team capable of delivering high‑quality natural resource programs and services.
• Cultivates a coaching and mentoring culture that empowers staff through feedback, capacity building, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborates with other Tl’azt’en Nation departments to integrate health considerations into broader community‑development strategies.
• Attends leadership meetings, contributes to strategic planning, and ensures health programs align with the Nation’s overall vision and goals.

Protects and advances Tl’azt’en Nation’s lands, waters, wildlife, and cultural values through strategic leadership grounded in Rights & Title.

• Guides sustainable development and stewardship decisions with a balance of cultural responsibility, technical expertise, and community trust.
• Strengthens governance and long‑term planning by coordinating research, policy, consultation, and program delivery across all natural resource areas.
• Ensures transparent, accurate, and responsible management of natural resource finances, projects, data, and reporting.
• Builds strong relationships with community members, Elders, partners, and governments to uphold Tl’azt’en interests and protect culturally significant areas.
• Leads and mentors staff to deliver high‑quality, culturally aligned natural resource services that support Nation sovereignty and future generations.

Location

This position is based at the Tl’azt’en Nation Administration Office in Tache, BC, with some travel to surrounding communities as needed.

Hours of Work

This position offers a stable, leadership‑level schedule built for focus and accountability—providing a 35‑hour work week, Monday to Friday, with managerial‑level compensation that reflects the full scope of responsibility without overtime entitlements.
