Job summary

Pi School, a research and innovation company, seeks a Software Engineer (ML systems) to join its Rome office. You will design, deploy, and maintain scalable ML systems, from backend services to production-grade deployments, collaborating with researchers and contributing to open-source tooling.

Qualifications

• Must have excellent Python programming
• Hands-on with cloud services (AWS/GCP) or similar platforms
• Experience with model serving frameworks (FastAPI, BentoML, vLLM, Triton)
• Experience with CI/CD tools
• Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and data modelling
• Strong REST API design and microservices architecture understanding
• Familiarity with authentication/authorization (JWT, OAuth)
• Track record deploying ML systems to production and exposing scalable APIs
• Solid networking concepts: proxies, load balancing, secure endpoints

Responsibilities

• Develop scalable backend services and APIs for model serving and integration into user-facing apps
• Own CI/CD, testing, deployment, and monitoring of ML systems in cloud or HPC environments
• Optimize performance across data pipelines, GPU workloads, inference latency, and cost
• Collaborate with researchers to translate prototypes into robust production systems
• Contribute to engineering best practices (code quality, documentation, reproducibility)
• Support open-source releases with production-ready packaging and docs
