The Opportunity

We are seeking a Merchant Risk Specialist, part of the 2nd Line of Defence Risk in Worldline Merchant Services Italia. The primary responsibilities include overseeing the risk management framework governing merchant risk and managing the Risk Data Analyst to ensure data quality.

Under the supervision of the local Chief Risk Officer, the Merchant Risk Manager addresses merchant risks (credit, fraud, payment schemes, integrity) and ensures that the risk/reward balance aligns with the company's strategy.

The Merchant Risk Manager contributes to designing and overseeing the risk reporting tools used for merchant portfolio reporting and steering. Responsibilities involve managing risks from payment transactions of Worldline’s merchants and providing user-friendly tools that reflect accurate portfolio data. The team aims to transform large transaction data into insights, dashboards, and KRIs.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Collaborate with product teams, operations, data engineers, and risk experts to plan, develop, and deliver merchant risk projects from initiation through completion.

Governance & Merchant Risk Policies

• Oversee the Merchant Risk Policy Framework
• Contribute to developing and maintaining merchant risk policies
• Ensure effective implementation of policies by operational teams
• Manage escalation processes for underwriting and acceptance decisions
• Contribute to updating the Merchant Risk Appetite Statement
• Monitor and report on KRIs to the Board and Management
• Develop a Merchant Risk Scorecard to enhance risk assessment efficiency
• Lead special projects to deepen risk understanding

Risk Identification & Measurement

• Define standards for merchant risk monitoring and KPIs & KRIs
• Establish collateral/reserves requirements

Reporting, Monitoring & Control

• Develop merchant risk steering and portfolio views
• Ensure the quality and timeliness of risk reports
• Implement controls to uphold risk assessment standards
• Work with IT to develop risk reporting and analytics solutions
• Maintain Risk Data Management systems supporting risk practices

Stakeholder Management & Relations

• Collaborate with risk analytics experts for reporting
• Build relationships with sales and account managers to communicate risks
• Coordinate with operational risk teams and compliance officers
• Support staff with risk policy guidance and training
• Stay updated on product, market, and regulatory developments
• Manage security controls and governance frameworks, including data classification, access control, and incident response

Candidate Profile

We seek innovative thinkers with passion, a proactive attitude, and a desire to learn and grow. Requirements include:

• Minimum 6 years of experience in Merchant Risk Analysis or fraud detection
• Experience in payment services or banking is a plus
• Excellent communication skills for engaging with senior management and stakeholders
• Ability to assess and mitigate organizational risks
• Ownership, initiative, and project management skills
• Resilience and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment
• Strong proficiency in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
• Higher education in Economics, Finance, Risk Management, Business, or related fields
• Fluent English (at least B2.3 level)
